1999 Harley-Davidson Fltri Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS FAILURES OF THE ENGINE CAM BEARINGS IN 1999 TWIN CAM MOTORS WHICH IS A NEW DESIGN FROM HARLEY DAVIDSON. HARLEY DAVIDSON HAS SINCE REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE BEARINGS WITH A STRONGER ONE, HOWEVER, THE REFUSE TO RECALL MOTORS WITH THE BAD BEARINGS IN THEM UNLESS THE CUSTOMER PAYS FOR THE FIX. IF THE BEARINGS FAIL WHILE THE MOTORCYCLE IS RUNNING, THE REAR WHEEL COULD LOCK UP AND CAUSE SEVERE INJURY AND OR DEATH TO THE RIDER, PASSENGER, AND OTHER MOTORISTS. MY BIKE HAS THAT WEAK BEARINGS IN IT, AND I WISH FOR A FACTORY RECALL TO REPLACE THEM. AK* *JB **** DIMSII IVOQ ENTRY POSTED AFTER 12/12/02 CUT-OVER TO ARTEMIS****723494.
