2010 Harley-Davidson Fltrx Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2010 Harley-Davidson Fltrx, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

IT IS VERY NICE THAT HD IS DOING A "VOLUNTARY" RECALL. THEY ARE NOT ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM, WHICH IS THE ELECTRONICS MODULE HAS COLD-SOLDER JOINTS ON THE ANTI-LOCK SOLENOIDS. IT IS NOT DUE TO THE LACK OF MAINTENANCE OF THE BRAKE FLUID. I HAD A FIVE YEAR WARRANTY ON MY 2010 FLTRX AND THEY DID ALL OF THE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, AND MY FRONT BRAKE BECAME UNUSEABLE LAST FALL WHILE RIDING. I CHACKED ALL THE COMPONENTS; MASTER CYLINDER, CALIPERS, BRAKE LINES, AND FINALLY THE ANTI-LOCK MODULE. THE SOLENOIDS WERE LOCKED TIGHT, I CUT THE COVER OFF THE ELECTRONCS MODULES AND DISCOVERED THREE COLD-SOLDER JOINTS ON THREE OF THE FOUR SOLENOIDS. WHEN 12V DC WAS APPLIED TO THE SOLENOIDS DIRECTLY, THE WOULD THEN FUNCTION AS DESIGNED. THIS WILL CONTINUE TO BE A HAZARD TO RIDERS UNTIL HD REPLACES ALL OF THE ELECTRONIC MODULES ON THESE MOTORCYCLES.

HARLEY SENT OUT NOTICE TO FLUSH THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM WHICH I DID, BUT COULDN'T BLEED THE SYSTEM,SO I TOOK IT TO MY DEALER IN WACO. THEY TOLD ME THE SYSTEM HAD FAILED AND IT WOULD COST $755.49 TO REPLACE THE VALVE. I HAVE DISCOVERED THROUGH ONLINE FORUMS THAT HARLEY'S ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. ABS FAILURE CAN CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH. HARLEY NEEDS TO RECALL THE SYSTEM.

ON 3/13/2012 I PAID HOLSTEIN'S HARLEY-DAVIDSON FOR SERVICE THAT INCLUDED A 5K SERVICE. HOLSTEIN'S FAILED TO OBSERVE AND REPAIR A BRAKE SWITCH RECALL. ON 7/12/2012, THE BRAKE SWITCH STARTED ON FIRE. ON 7/14/2012 HOLSTEIN'S REFUSED TO REPAIR THE BRAKES AND I HAD IT TOWED TO WERNER CYCLE WORKS FOR REPAIR. HARLEY-DAVIDSON CUSTOMER CARE REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME FOR REPAIR SINCE WERNER'S IS NOT A HARLEY-DAVIDSON SHOP (FILED CASE # [XXX]). HOLSTEIN'S REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME EVEN THOUGH THEY VERBALLY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT I PAID FOR A 5K SERVICE CHECK AND THEY SHOULD HAVE REPAIRED THE BRAKE SWITCH. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
