1998 Harley-Davidson Fx Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MOTORCYCLE IN THE FALL OF 1998. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP A NUMBER OF TIMES FOR THE PROBLEM. WHEN I AM GOING ABOUT 55MPH THE MOTOR JUST GOES DEAD. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE FUEL VALVE, JETTED THE CARB JET, AND PUT IN A NEW DIAPHREM. THE PROBLEM STILL IS NOT FIXED. I AM LETTING YOU KNOW THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE LAST WEEK I ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED BY TWO TRUCKS ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE THE MOTOR WENT DEAD. I CAN NOT GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER FOR WHY THIS MOTORCYCLE KEEPS DIEING. THE PERSON AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT I HAVE FOUND MOST OF THE THINGS GOING WRONG WITH THIS YEARS(1998) PROBLEMS. I AM MOST CONCERNED WITH THIS NOT RUNNING PROPERLY. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE SOLVED AT THE MANUFACTURERS COST NOT AT THE COST OF SOMEONES LIFE. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME TO ASK MORE DETAILED QUESTIONS.
