Our database holds 2 NHTSA owner-reported complaints for the 2000 Harley-Davidson Fxdx. Each one is a report filed by an owner or driver and published by NHTSA without most of them being verified. A complaint is not a confirmed defect, not a recall and not a manufacturer bulletin. Narratives are shown exactly as filed.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

I AM CONCERNED ABOUT REPORTS OF CAM AND CAM BEARING FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER CLAIMS INCIDENTS OF LESS THAN 1%. HOWEVER THE PEOPLE I TALK TO INDICATE POSSIBLY 25-30% FAILURE RATE. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RAMIFICATIONS OF A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS WELL AS THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING STRANDED IN REMOTE LOCATIONS. ANOTHER CONCERN IS BEING DISTRACTED BY AN ENGINE FAILURE WHICH COULD INCLUDE 200 DEGREE ENGINE OIL BEING SPRAYED ON MY LEGS AND UNDER MY REAR TIRE WHILE RIDING IN A CONGESTED TRAFFIC SITUATION.
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
