2006 Harley-Davidson Vrscd Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2006 Harley-Davidson Vrscd, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

I HAVE A 2006 VRSCD HARLEY DAVIDSON NIGHT ROD MOTORCYCLE. MY FUEL GAUGE NO LONGER WORKS AS OF MONDAY AUGUST 9, 2010. I HAVE HAD SPORADIC READINGS WHERE THE GAUGE WILL DROP TO A NO GAS READING TO A FULL GAS READING TO AN ACTUAL READING TO AN UN ACTUAL READING. THE GAUGE HAS NEVER STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY UNTIL YESTERDAY, MORE THAN 5 YEARS AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD EXPIRED. I HAVE TRIED TURNING THE BIKE ON AND OFF AND I GET A ZERO GAS READING AND ZERO GAS MOVEMENT FROM THE GAUGE. AGAIN, IT NO LONGER WORKS AND IS STUCK AT THE SAME LEVEL. MANY, MANY V-ROD OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED OF THIS FAILURE AND SOME HAVE HAD THE GAUGES REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY (SOME MORE THAN ONCE) AND OTHERS HAVE PAID FOR THE REPAIR ONLY TO HAVE ANOTHER FAILURE DOWN THE ROAD. I AM NOT READY TO PAY FOR A REPAIR TO SUCH A VALUABLE AND CRITICAL COMPONENT TO A MOTORCYCLE. I BELIEVE KNOWING HOW MUCH GAS ACTUALLY RESIDES IN ONE'S MOTORCYCLE OR AUTOMOBILE FOR THAT MATTER, SHOULD BE A RIGHT. THIS SHOULD BE A MASSIVE RECALL FOR ALL OWNERS OF THESE MODELS OF MOTORCYCLES. *TR

THIS AFTERNOON I RODE IN ABOUT 20 MPH WINDS AND IT WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. IT FELT LIKE I WAS RIDING ON ICE OR GLASS. ANY SLIGHT BURST OF WIND PUSHED MY MOTORCYCLE INTO A DANGEROUS LEAN. I FELT IT THE MOST WHILE TRAVELING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 30 AND 45 MPH. I'VE RIDDEN MANY DIFFERENT MAKES OF MOTORCYCLES AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS. I DID NOT FEEL LIKE I HAD CONTROL AND EVEN HAD TO PULL OVER A FEW TIMES TO AVOID LOOSING COMPLETE CONTROL. *JB

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
