2004 Harley-Davidson XL1200C Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I HEARD A TAPPING SOUND WHILE RIDING MY MOTORCYCLE. A CRACKED UPPER BELT COVER/GUARD WAS DETECTED. NO INJURY OCCURRED BUT THE COVER COULD HAVE GOTTEN CAUGHT IN THE BELT CAUSING A SERIOUS INJURY TO RIDER. THE WELDING ON THE GUARD WAS CRACKED. *JB

SECOND TIME A FRIEND ON HIS MOTORCYCLE BEHIND ME WAS NEARLY HIT BY COVER. I ALLIED HARLEY-DAVIDSON CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM AND GAVE ME A REFERENCE NUMBER TO GIVE MY DEALER. MY DEALER WAS UNAWARE OF PROBLEM WITH THE 2004 SPORTSTER AND I WONDER WHY NO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. *AK

Too few reports in this category for a page of its own — they appear in the full complaint list.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
