The defect: MONACO IS RECALLING CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES EQUIPPED WITH NORCOLD REFRIGERATORS. A FATIGUE FAILURE IN THE SECTION OF THE COOLING UNIT WHICH CONTAINS THE REFRIGERANT COULD ALLOW THE LIQUID SOLUTION TO SLOWLY LEAK.
The risk: EXTENDED OPERATION OF A LEAKING COOLING UNIT COULD LEAD TO A FIRE FROM GAS WHICH MIGHT ESCAPE.
The remedy: MONACO IS WORKING WITH NORCOLD TO REPAIR THESE REFRIGERATORS. NORCOLD WILL PROVIDE THERMAL SWITCH KITS TO OWNERS ALONG WITH THE NECESSARY FORMS AND INSTRUCTIONS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 29, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NORCOLD AT 1-800-767-9101 OR MONACO AT 1-800-685-6545.

The defect: ON CERTAIN FIFTH WHEEL TRAILERS, A DEFICIENCY IN THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE MAIN FRAME RAILS COULD CAUSE THE RAILS TO CRACK AND AXLES COULD SHIFT, CAUSING THE FIFTH WHEEL TO PULL ERRATICALLY.
The risk: THIS COULD CAUSE THE DRIVER OF THE TOW VEHICLE TO LOSE CONTROL CREATING THE POTENTIAL FOR A CRASH RESULTING IN PERSONAL INJURY.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND ADD AN ADDITION OF GUSSET PLATES AND CROSS TUBES TO STRENGHEN THE AXLE SPRING HANGERS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 29, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT MONACO AT 1-800-685-6545.

The defect: FIFTH WHEEL TRAILERS. THE ROUTING OF THE LIQUID PROPANE GAS (LPG) LINE WAS INADVERTENTLY INSTALLED IN THE SIDEWALL OF THE SLIDEOUT. IF THE RECREATIONAL VEHICLE IS OPERATED WITH THE LINE IMPROPERLY INSTALLED, THERE IS THE RISK OF PREMATURE FAILURE DUE TO ABRASION, OR PUNCTURE OF THE LPG LINE, WHICH COULD LEAD TO RELEASE OF LPG IN THE RECREATIONAL VEHICLE.
The risk: THE RELEASE OF THE LPG INSIDE THE VEHICLE COULD LEAD TO AN EXPLOSION IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY TO VEHICLE OCCUPANTS.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE REFRIGERATOR LPG LINE, AND IF MOUNTED IN THE SLIDEOUT, THE STOVE LPG LINE. THE NEW LINE(S) WILL BE ROUTED IN A WAY THAT MAKES THEM ACCESSIBLE THE ENTIRE RUN TO THE APPLIANCE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MARCH 29, 2001. OWNERS WHO DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT MONACO AT 1-800-685-6545.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HOLIDAY RAMBLER ALUMASCAPE. THE CONTACT NOTICED HAIRLINE FRACTURES (STRESS FRACTURES) WITHIN THE STEEL FRAME, FROM FRONT TO BACK. THERE WERE ALSO WELDED BRACKETS, WHICH WOULD GIVE THE FRAME MORE STRENGTH; HOWEVER, WELDS WERE FRACTURED ON THE BRACE PIECES AS WELL. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BOX WOULD SWAY. IN ADDITION, THE TRAILER ALIGNMENT WAS OFF AND CREATED THE ILLUSION THAT THE TIRES WERE OFFSET FROM THE TRAILER. THE TIRES ACTUALLY STRUCK THE FRAME DUE TO THE SWAYING. THROUGH ONLINE RESEARCH, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V483000 (STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS), WHICH DESCRIBED THE SAME FAILURE SHE WAS EXPERIENCING. BOTH THE FRAME MANUFACTURER AND THE TRAILER MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE RECALL APPLIED TO LARGER MODELS, AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

I HAVE A 2001 HOLIDAY RAMBLER 26' FIFTH WHEEL RV,ON THIS DATE NUMEROUS FRAME CRACKS AND BROKEN WELDS WERE FOUND WHICH CAUSED THE AXLES TO MOVE LATERALLY ABOUT 6 INCHES RESULTING IN 1 BLOWOUT AT HIGHWAY SPEED. IT APPEARS THE OPTIONAL ADJUSTABLE SUSPENSION WAS NOT PROPERLY STRENGTHENED TO PREVENT EXCESSIVE FLEXING OF THE FRAME. RV WAS INSPECTED BY A CERTIFIED WELDER OF TRAILERS SENT TO US BY THE MANUFACTURER,AND HE NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER THAT THERE WAS NO WAY HE COULD MAKE THE RV ROAD WORTHY. THE RV WAS LEFT IN KNOXVILLE,TENN. AND WAS TRANSPORTED BY FLATBED TRUCK BACK TO THE FACTORY FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIR IF POSSIBLE. SEPARATION OF THE AXLE FROM THE RV AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WOULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC TO SAY THE LEAST. THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT IF WE HAD CONTINUED DRIVING THAT SEPARATION OF THE AXLE WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. *LA
