What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
On 2-252026 my wife and I were driving on highway I-15 in California when the car started to accelerate, decelerate and jerk and the engine light came on. It was very scary because we were on a major highway driving around 60 MPH and cars were behind us when the deceleration happened. We could have been hit by cars traveling behind us or either we could have caused a major accident. We had to get off the highway and have the car towed to Honda for assessment. There was no engine light warning or service warning from Honda prior to this happening, it just randomly happened. The car was repaired at a Honda dealership and they said there was a leaking head gasket on cylinder number 4. When we looked up information regarding this head gasket failure we saw that other Honda cars have had the same problem and Honda is currently involved in lawsuits regarding this leaking head gasket on cylinder number 4.
Over the past several years, there have been multiple instances where I or my wife are driving on the highway and the engine light comes on or starts flashing, and I am unable to go faster than 50 miles an hour, and the engine itself feels to be underpowered. We have taken it to the dealership for repair at least five times over the past five years and in each case they have attempted to do a repair and said the issue has been resolved, but the issue continue. At at least one of those visits, they have diagnosed the issue as an engine misfire issue. The issue has intensified from the initial symptoms, (which were as I described, but resolved by turning the car off, waiting 30 seconds to a minute and then turning the car on again) to how it is now: in addition to the check engine light, every other light and warning system has gone off when driving on the highway and the engine was unable to go faster than 40 miles an hour, and it does not resolve by restarting the car. The dealership and Honda America’s main phone line have as of yet been unable to give me a clear answer as to why this is happening or whether it can be fixed. A sudden drop in speed and power on the highway as we have experienced many times over the last five years is inherently extremely dangerous.
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
At approximately [XXX]. Pacific, I was traveling southbound in the fastrak lane of the [XXX] departing from Pleasant Hill, California headed to Pleasanton, California. As I began to accelerate, the engine began to sputter. Immediately, the check engine light flashed on, then the dashboard reported a number of issues ranging from brake failure, TPMS failure, power assisted steering failure, vehicle stability assist failure and a number of other issues that I have never encountered since purchasing the vehicle. The sudden deceleration almost resulted in other cars impacting my car as this occurred during the morning commute. I was able to safely navigate off of the freeway. I was on speakerphone with Honda when this occurred. Had I not acted swiftly, a potential high speed rear end collision was likely to have occurred. I immediately took the car to Concord Honda. The team at Concord Honda performed a diagnosis and advised me that my head gasket was leaking water into the combustion chamber which resulted in the sudden loss of power. I was and continue to be dissatisfied with the handling of this issue by Honda as my car has never been handled by another mechanic. My car has a perfect or near perfect maintenance record and should not have a blown head gasket at 80k miles especially since my car is meticulously maintained and serviced by Concord Honda. DEFECTIVE RECALLED-REPLACEMENT FUEL PUMP? NHTSA Campaign # 23V858000 “Fuel pump failure can cause engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.” My 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid had gotten 50 mpg in September & October of 2024 – as it had been getting consistently, reliably for the past six years. Also, I have Always driven 545 miles per tank of gas consistently, reliably for the past six years. My original fuel pump, which was recalled (NHTSA #23V858000), NEVER failed and operated perfectly efficiently for six years. In December 2024 I observed the NHTSA fuel-pump-recall and had the “perfect” original fuel pump replaced. As soon as the “New” fuel pump was installed at the dealership, my MPG dropped to 39mpg AND miles-driven-per-tank of gas dropped to 445 miles! Shocking! My 2018 Accord Hybrid lost 100 miles of driving Range, and mpg dropped to non-hybrid performance! This leaves me to question the SAFETY of the NEW Recall-Replacement fuel pump. Also, since the “New” replacement Fuel pump was installed, my High-Voltage Lithium-Ion Battery Pack has been “kicking-in” more frequently to assist the less efficient new fuel pump. This causes the gas engine to rev longer at high rpms whenever I start the car in order to constantly recharge the HV Lithium Ion Batteries that must assist the less efficient New fuel pump . It appears to be a precarious cycle of decline for both the fuel pump and HVLI batteries! Help! I would like NHTSA to determine: 1.Is the replacement fuel pump “failing” from the time of installation? 2.Was a “new” fuel pump actually installed, or was a “defective part replaced in the original recalled fuel pump? 3.Is the replacement fuel pump not designed technologically as the original fuel pump? 4.How SAFE is the “NEW Fuel Pump”? 5.Are other Honda Hybrid owners who had their fuel pumps replaced under # 23V858000 complaining of poor performance? Is this a serious indication of rapid replacement (New) fuel pump failure?
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim

While driving on the highway at approximately 65 mph with my child in the vehicle during rush-hour on May 21, 2026, my 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring (105,746 miles) suddenly dropped speed, and began backfiring and stopped responding to the gas pedal. The check engine light flashed and the vehicle ran rough. I activated emergency flashers and drove slowly to the shoulder. Sunnyvale Honda (Sunnyvale, CA) diagnosed coolant intrusion into one of the cylinders and head gasket failure. The vehicle had never overheated and showed no prior warning signs. All maintenance was performed at Honda dealerships per the maintenance minder schedule. The dealership performed a head gasket repair costing $7,500+ out of pocket. On the first highway drive after pickup, again with my children in the vehicle, the identical failure occurred: backfiring, complete loss of throttle response, vehicle unable to exceed 48 mph with the accelerator fully depressed. The repair did not resolve the defect. The vehicle is currently back at the dealership for further investigation. This failure created an immediate safety hazard on both occasions: sudden loss of speed on highway with no warning. Honda Customer Service denied goodwill assistance. I am aware of numerous similar complaints involving coolant leak and head gasket failure on 2018-2022 Accord including complaints documenting the same failure on the Accord Hybrid 2.0L engine. NHTSA should investigate this as a potential safety-related defect affecting multiple Honda engine variants.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim

Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
when i am driving in an area near my home with road construction- there is a certain area that has a metal plate in the road and when i approach in from the east my car will automatically brake hard. luckily this has not caused an accident but i suspect that it may because it is a busy road.
Multiple times in the state of Oklahoma, driving from Oklahoma to Maryland, and in Maryland Washington DC area, the automatic brakes apply at highway speeds on the interstate whenever there is a shadow in the road. It is extremely frightening. I am having the fuel pump recall Repaired at the Honda dealership today. I told the Honda dealership about this problem and they said they were unaware of it. They said they would reset the calibration on the anti-breaking system. However, upon research, it looks like you are investigating this problem. Please add my car to the list of cars affected. I do not know the exact dates that this happened but it has been. I would say at least 20 to 30 times since 2020 when I bought the vehicle.
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid. The contact stated while operating the vehicle, the back-up warning sensor malfunctioned and failed to properly alarm as needed. Additionally, while driving at various speeds, the power steering assist malfunctioned, causing the steering wheel to become difficult to turn in either direction. The cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, but no cause for the failure was found. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 48,000. The contact stated the vehicle was traded in and bought an EV.
My automatic braking system is activating sporadically with no apparent object in front of me. My car has suddenly come to a complete stop while driving on Market Street, York PA when there was no traffic in front or to the side of me and luckily no one behind me. The "BRAKE" alert flashed and the car literally screeched to a stop. This happened again when I was in Stewartstown, PA and was starting to go over railroad tracks, it suddenly stopped. Again, no one was in front of me or behind me. I routinely drive I-83 from York to Harrisburg 3 days a week to go to work. If this would happen to me on I-83, this would cause a serious accident. I contacted Apple Honda and was told the system is just really "touchy" and there is no fix. The person I spoke with said a leaf blowing across the road could trigger the system. I have to deactivate the anti-collision feature whenever I drive. This is a serious issue that has been around for several years according to researching the issue and Honda refuses to fix this.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
The car loses power. It starts as a misfire on cylinder 2 (P0302 code) and the engine starts to shutdown (or goes into a safe mode with no power). The result is loss of speed which creates a safety hazard especially on highways. This has happened multiple times and the car has been in the shop 4 times for this issue. We have to pull off the road, turn the car off, sit for a minute and restart the car. It will then run ok. This has happened during acceleration and when just trying to keep speed on an incline. The dealership has not been able to identify an issue. The head gasket was replaced in April 2025 because they thought there was a pin hole that was causing oil to push into the cylinder. The misfire continued to happen. It was in the shop on October 2025 and they found nothing wrong with the spark plug, induction coils, gas feed. Therefore no understanding of the root cause.
Failed: 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid 67,966 miles - Headgasket replacement needed (Determined by dealer DCH Honda Paramus, NJ / Reconfirmed by a private mechanic) Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection. Safety issue: The engine can suddenly overheat/seize and become inoperable. Warning message: Engine Temperature Near Limit. Avoid Heavy Acceleration and High Speed. A warning message appeared on [XXX] Other details: After searching via Google, YouTube, [XXX], and other sites, the issue seems to start as early as 60~70K miles. The most probable source of the issue appears to be a weak rod or with pressure. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
Report is for a potential incident. Should the hood not be fully closed and only be held by the hood release lever at the front of the hood, the vehicle will not notify the driver of the potential danger even though the vehicle utilizes a sensor for the hood. Driving around with the hood not fully closed could result in an accident should the hood lever fail. This is on at least two different Honda models both the Accord and the CRV.
Hood release cable has seized closed - Honda has been unable to give any explanation as to why and repair times for part are months out - unable to access engine or battery compartment due to this- unable to refill washer fluid, check oil etc -

LOW TIRE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON WHEN YOUR TIRES AREN'T LOW. HAVE SEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE SAME THING. BELIEVE THIS IS DANGEROUS AS A PERSON DRIVING ON A INTERSTATE COULD IGNORE THE LIGHT BELIEVING THE READING OF LOW TIRE IS FALSE WHEN IN REALITY IT MAY NOT. TIRE GOES FLAT AT HIGH SPEEDS OR BLOW OUT COULD CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT. HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY ARE AWARE BUT CANNOT DO ANYTHING. ALSO SAID THE RESULT OF THE WARNING COULD BE WEATHER OR ROAD CONDITIONS. OUR VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY WITH 30,800 MILES. THERE ARE SENDING UNITS FOR EACH TIRE. IF THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH HONDA'S THEN WHY ARE THEY ALLOWED TO,KEEP PRODUCING THIS DEFECT. LIGHT COMES ON OFTEN AND IT IS VERY AGGRAVATING TO KEEP CHECKING THE AIR IN OUR TIRES EVERY COUPLE OF DAYS. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL DAYS AS I TOOK IT TO A TIRE DEALER AND THEY FOUND THERE WAS PROPER AIR IN THE TIRES ON 10/26/2020. IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE IF THE VEHICLE IS MOVING OR STOPPED.
WE PURCHASED OUR HONDA IN LATE OCT WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK OF OWNING IT WE HIT A SMALL POT HOLE WHILE TURNING LEFT ON A COUNTRY ROAD. WE WERE GOING FAIRLY SLOW BECAUSE WE WERE TURNING AND TWO TIRES ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BLEW OUT. THINKING THIS WAS JUST SOME WEIRD ONE TIME THING WE GOT BOTH TIRES REPLACED AND SADLY WITHIN THE NEXT MONTH WE BLEW 2 MORE TIRES BOTH TIRES ON PASSENGER SIDE AGAIN. THIS TIME WE WERE TRAVELING ABOUT 35 AND AS WE WERE ENTERING ONTO HWY COMING UP THE ON RAMP, WE HIT ANOTHER POTHOLE. NEITHER TIME WHEN THE TIRE BLEW DID WE ONLY BLOW ONE TIRE. IT IS STRANGE TO LOSE TWO TIRES AT THE SAME TIME ESPECIALLY MORE THAN ONCE . AFTER TALKING TO DEALER WE FOUND THAT THESE TIRES HAVE VERY THIN SIDEWALLS SO THEY WEIGH LESS. THEY SAID THIS IS TO HELP WITH GAS MILLAGE.MY CONCERN IS IF THIS HAPPENED AT HIGHER SPEEDS THIS COULD CAUSE CAR TO ROLL OR LOSE CONTROL. IN MY 40 PLUS YEARS OF DRIVING I HAVE NEVER EVEN LOST ONE TIRE DUE TO HITTING A POT HOLE PRIOR TO THIS VEHICLE. SO TO LOSE 4 TIRES WITHING A COUPLE MONTHS OF PURCHASE REALLY CONCERNS ME. WE HAVE UPGRADED OUR TIRES NOW TO THE THICKER SIDEWALLS BUT I WANTED TO LET OTHERS KNOW TO BE CAUTIOUS.

Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE CLEANING THE FRONT WINDSHIELD IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT NO IMPACT TO THE WINDSHIELD HAD OCCURRED TO CAUSE THE CRACK. THE WINDSHIELD HAD BEEN REPLACED PREVIOUSLY DUE TO CRACKING. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER HONDA WEST LOCATED AT 7615 W. SAHARA AVE, LAS VEGAS, NV 89117 AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000.
IN LESS THAN 5,000 MILES I'VE HAD 2 CRACKED WINDSHIELDS THAT SHOW NO SIGN OF PEBBLE OR STONE IMPACT AND CRACKED WHILE THE CAR WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN. BOTH CRACKS STARTED IN APPROX. THE SAME PLACE OF THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE PILLARS. EACH INSTANCE COSTS APPROX. $1400 TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD (INCLUDES CAMERA RECAL). YOU CAN FIND NUMEROUS INSTANCES ON THE INTERNET OF BASICALLY THE SAME THING HAPPENING TO OTHER ACCORD (AND HYBRIDS) OWNERS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT COULD AFFECT THE SAFETY SYSTEMS MOUNTED IN THE WINDSHIELD. EITHER THE GLASS IS SPECED WRONG OR DEFECTIVE OR THE DESIGN IS TORQUEING THE GLASS MORE THAN ITS DESIGNED TO HANDLE.

Seat belts
Reports naming seat belts, buckles, retractors and pretensioners.
From owner reports, verbatim
On 2/3/25 a warning light came on in my 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid while driving home (supplemental restraint system problem, see your dealer). I immediately called the Honda dealer where I get my car serviced to explain the problem. I was told I would need to bring the car in and pay $200 for a diagnostic and they would have to keep the car for a few days. Well I know the problem, MY DRIVER SEATBELT NO LONGER LOCKS WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES. I TESTED IT THE WHOLE 1 HOUR DRIVE HOME. I then called Honda Customer service and they were closed. However they did mention the car I have based on my phone number and said there were no recalls. I was in a panic driving home from work for an hour with no fully functioning seat belt. I went online and there is a seat belt recall on Honda cars but apparently not the year mine was made. I bought my car brand new, it's only 6 years old and I expect to have functioning seatbelts. I also do not expect to pay out of pocket for ANY DIAGNOSTIC COST WHEN MY SEAT BELT CLEARLY NO LONGER FUNCTIONS AS IT SHOULD. I would like this information reported to Honda ASAP. I do not have a second car and I'm in a panic about having to drive to work. Please HELP ME. I will also try again to call Honda corporate office tomorrow.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) and 23V158000 (Seat Belts) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

Suspension
Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.
From owner reports, verbatim
(REGISTERING THIS COMPLAINT ON 16 SEP 19). I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW ('18 ACCORD HYBRID), 6 SEP 18. A COUPLE MONTHS LATER THE FRONT STRUTS STARTED MAKING A CREAKING/POPPING SOUND. IT WAS VERY NOTICEABLE WHEN BACKING OUT OF GARAGE AND THEN DRIVING OUT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD. WHEN I'D ROCK THE STEERING BACK AND FORTH, THE NOISE WAS VERY AUDIBLE. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID NEITHER FRONT STRUT HAD BEEN LUBED FROM THE FACTORY (VERY ODD), SO THEY LUBED THEM. 2-3 WEEKS LATER NOISE RETURNED. THIS TIME DEALER SAID ONE STRUT WAS BAD AND THEY REPLACED IT. A MONTH LATER THE SAME NOISE RETURNED. DEALER SAID I HAD A BENT CONTROL ARM AND ASKED ME IF I HAD HIT SOMETHING. I HADN'T AND TOLD THEM SO. AFTER INSPECTION THEY SAID THEY FOUND NO DAMAGE BUT THAT THE CONTROL WAS BENT AND CONCLUDED THAT IT WAS BENT FROM THE FACTORY OR WAS DAMAGED DURING SHIPPING. DEALER REPLACED IT. BUT THEN 3-4 WEEKS LATER SAME NOISE RETURNED. I HAVE ABOUT HAD IT WITH THIS PARTICULAR CAR (I HAVE HAD TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR MANY 'OTHER' ISSUES ALSO: TWO RECALLS, ELECTRICAL ISSUES, NAVIGATION ISSUES, THE ENGINE'S BATTERY WAS FAULTY, AND THE MILEAGE HAS STEADILY DROPPED BY 25% SINCE I BOUGHT AND TOOK DELIVERY OF IT IN SEP, 2018). SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE WOULD DISCUSS THESE ISSUES WITH HONDA AREA REP (LAST WEEK), BUT HAS YET TO GET BACK TO ME AS OF 16 SEP 19. AMONG ALL THE PROBLEMS, THE SUSPENSION HAS BEEN ONGOING OVER THE LAST 10-11 MONTHS. WEST HILLS HONDA HAS MADE THREE ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT THE SUSPENSION PROBLEMS BUT ALL HAVE FAILED. THE SUSPENSION NOISE IS STILL PRESENT AS OF 16 SEP 19. VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 8700 MILES.
I'M BARELY REACHING CLOSE TO 6000 MILES AND I'M ALREADY HEARING CLUNK SOUNDS ON MY SUSPENSIONS WHEN I SLOWLY GO INTO A DIP OR DRIVE ACROSS A BUMP, NOW SOMETIMES THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE THIS RATTLING SOUND WHEN I ACCELERATE BETWEEN 2000-3000 RPMS AND SOMETIMES WHEN I REMOVE THE PARKING BRAKE AND GO REVERSE THE BRAKING SYSTEM WOULD RANDOMLY BRAKE ON ME VIOLENTLY AND PUT IT ON PARK. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AT 84 MILES.

STARTED THE CAR AND WAS IMMEDIATELY RECEIVED 4 MESSAGES: "LKAS: LANE KEEPING ASSIST SYSTEM PROBLEM. SEE YOUR DEALER.". "ROAD DEPARTURE MITIGATION SYSTEM PROBLEM. SEE YOUR DEALER.", "BLIND SPOT INFORMATION SYSTEM PROBLEM. SEE YOUR DEALER.", "AUTO HIGH_BEAM PROBLEM. MANUAL CONTROLS AVAILABLE. SEE YOUR DEALER.". TURN SIGNALS DID NOT WORK. HAZARD LIGHTS DID NOT WORK. TRUNK RELEASE DID NOT WORK. BACKUP CAMERA DID NOT WORK. CAME BACK AFTER 30 MINUTES OR SO AND ALL DISPLAYED FAILURES WERE GONE AND THE TRUNK OPENED. MY DAUGHTER SAID THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE FUNCTIONING WHEN I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE AND EVEN THOUGH THE BACKUP CAMERA DID NOT TURN ON THE BACK UP SENSORS APPEARED TO BE OPERATING.
