Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
From owner reports, verbatim
This August will make two years since my airbags deployed. When closing the passenger door, all of the airbags deployed(with the exception of the dashboard). This normal amount of force caused this to happen. I have also read many complaints with the same issue as mine, and a lot of them are not on the recall list. I want to file this complaint to hopefully bring forward a resolution. Also, around the same time, while traveling to another state, my piston rings failed. They collapsed together. I had to have it “fixed” and towed to a near by auto shop. When I got back on the road, another spark plug failed. When I finally got home with my car, I took it to my local dealership. After taking my entire engine apart, they found that my piston rings failed”collapsed together”. This was a hefty bill. After some more research on my car, I found that this is only one reason why this model of Honda was discontinued. There is a malfunction with the engineering. I have not been reimbursed for the expense of a repair that I am not responsible for. Thank you. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On [XXX] at 01:55 PM MT, I was stopped at a red traffic signal at [XXX] While waiting for the light to turn green to take left, a vehicle insured by GEICO, driven by [XXX] , hit my vehicle from little front and left side of my car (driver's side) when he was trying to take right turn in the [XXX] I was completely stationary and the accident was entirely caused by the other driver. The impact resulted in damages to my vehicle, specifically (front bumper broken completely, front light broken, two doors of driver side damaged completely, driver side mirror bent, difficult to open the two doors of the driver side and getting noises from my car). My concerns is that The airbags of the car didn't work and didn't come out during the accident. I immediately called 911, but they informed me that they could not dispatch an officer since there were no reported injuries. They advised me to get insurance details from the other driver. I own a 2010 Honda Accord. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle jerks, and fails to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal on the hwy. The check engine warning light VSA is on. In 2022, I had Honda replace the engine, However, just after the warrenty expired, I started to experince the same issues. The vehicle has been sitting since 2023, and so I have it in the shop now (2026). He has replaced the spark plugs but there is misfire code for cylindars 1 and 2. The mechanic states that it's an engine issue. The vehicle was had been diagnosed and repaired on multple occassions. A scanner has been used mutiple times to retrieved a code for a misfire in the engine. Replaced the engine, time and chain, spark plugs, catalac converter, ignition coil. Mileage is 165,000
When driving at a normal speed, like 55mph, I’ll still be pushing on the gas pedal and it will drop down to 15mph on its own, then stall. It’s happened several times. I was sitting at a traffic light, went to turn left, pushed on the gas pedal, started to go, then just died. Someone told me they had a car like mine, and it does the same thing, another friend said his 2012 four door accord just had it happen to his when he was turning left, he pushed on the gas and it started to go, then died, he was hit and it totaled his car. He said it would happen to him all the time, but couldn’t afford a new car. Someone told him that it’s the eco system, that it happens all the time with the Honda accords. If this is true, Honda needs to recall them, there’s a lot of them still on the roads.

While backing out of my garage, my daughter observed flames coming out from the front center of the hood. I then put the car into park, and we got out of the car. I opened the hood, and observed smoke coming out of the alternator, and flames coming from the lower engine area. I then went into my garage to get my fire extinguisher, and put out the flames. I then phoned a towing service to transport my 2010 Honda Accord to the Mobil Station at 12 mile and Farmington Roads where I normally have my Honda serviced. I then telephoned my mechanic at the Mobil station to let him know that the two truck would deliver my car to him shortly. My mechanic then recommended replacing the alternator and started, which I agreed to. The next repair was to replace the engine wiring in my Honda Accord, which did not repair the vehicle. After 8-9 days, could not repair my 2010 Honda Accord, On October 8, 2024 my neighbor and I visited Suburban Honda in Farmington Hills, and were told to contact Honda America to open a case, which we did. After phoning 800-999-1009, and sharing the details of the engine compartment fire, an official Honda case [XXX] was opened to document the engine fire in my 2010 Honda Accord. 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The engine piston rings failed or malfunctioned. These parts were previously replaced under a Honda recall in 2018 due to excessive oil consumption. The same issue has returned — the vehicle is again burning oil. The engine and related components remain available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The excessive oil consumption can cause low engine oil levels, which may lead to engine damage or stalling while driving. A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of an accident, especially at highway speeds or in traffic. Additionally, the burning oil produces smoke that can obstruct visibility for the driver and nearby vehicles. im scared it might damager my life or the life of others. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. The issue was confirmed by a Honda dealership, which verified that the vehicle is consuming excessive oil. However, they stated that the vehicle is no longer covered under warranty, despite the same issue being repaired under the 2018 recall. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? Yes. The Honda dealership (manufacturer’s authorized representative) inspected the vehicle and confirmed the oil consumption problem. It has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes. The vehicle displayed low oil level warnings, and I had to add oil between scheduled oil changes. These symptoms reappeared around 2021, approximately three years after the piston rings were replaced under the recall.

I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON THE SAM HOUSTON TOLLWAY GOING ABOUT 70 MILES (WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC) IN 65 DEGREE WEATHER WHEN I HEARD A LOUD SOUND LIKE AN EXPLOSION. I COULD NOT PULL OVER WHERE I WAS SO I CONTINUED TO DRIVE. I HEARD THE WIND LIKE YOU WOULD IF YOUR WINDOWS WERE DOWN A BIT. I PULLED THE OPENING OF THE SUNROOF (THE COVER THAT IS INSIDE THE CAR) AND I HEARD THE GLASS. I SHUT IT IMMEDIATELY AND DROVE TO WORK. UPON ARRIVING AT WORK I INSPECTED THE SUNROOF AND FOUND NO DEBRIS THAT WOULD INDICATE SOMETHING HAD STRUCK MY CAR. I CALLED MY HUSBAND AND HE HAD RESEARCHED THIS AND SAW THE ARTICLE THAT BROUGHT ME HERE TO YOUR WEBSITE.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR, I RE-POSITIONED THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR SO THAT IT WOULD COVER THE DRIVERE SIDE WINDOW. DURING THE RE-POSITION, THE VISOR DETACHED ITSELF FROM THE CAR. THE VISOR WOULD NOT GO BACK INTO THE SOCKET, SO I HAD NO OTHER CHOICE BUT CLIP THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VISOR INTO IT'S SOCKET AND ALLOW THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VISOR TO HANG. I HAD TO HUNCH DOWN FOR THE REMAINDER OF MY COMMUTE IN ORDER TO HAVE FULL VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING. ONCE PARKED, I WAS ABLE TO WORK WITH THE VISOR FOR SEVERAL MINUTES TO GET IT BACK INTO THE SOCKET. THE VISOR CANNOT BE PIVOTED TO THE LEFT DRIVER SIDE, IT FALLS EVERY TIME.THE VISOR CAN ONLY REMAIN PARKED OR UNFOLDED WITHOUT DETACHING ITSELF FROM THE CAR. I FACE THE SUN DURING MY COMMUTE TO AND FROM WORK, SO NOT HAVING FULL ACCESS TO MY VISOR IS TROUBLESOME FOR MY VISION. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE DEALER SAID, "IT SEEMS FINE TO ME." THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I AM RELUCTANT TO PIVOT THE VISOR TO TAKE A PHOTO BECAUSE IT TAKES SO LONG TO GET IT BACK INTO THE SOCKET.

SRS LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF TOOK MY CAR TO HONDA AND WAS TOLD NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT. I HAD AIR BAGS REPLACED LAST YEAR. I HOPE NOTHING HAZARD HAPPENS TO ME OR OTHERS WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE.
I HAVE A BROKEN AIRBAG SENSOR WIRE UNDER MY FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE WIRE BROKE ON IT'S OWN FROM SIMPLY MOVING THE SEAT FOR MY DAUGHTER TO GET IN THE BACK SEAT. HONDA WANTS OVER $400 TO REPLACE THIS AND CLAIMS THE WIRE LOOKS TO HAVE BEEN CUT. HOWEVER I AM THE ONLY OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE & NEVER CUT THIS WIRE. I TOOK THE CAR TP ANOTHER AUTO SHOP WHO GAVE ME THEIR OPINION THE WIRE SIMPLY BROKE THRU NORMAL USE. I BELIEVE HONDA NEEDS TO REPAIR THIS AT NO COST AS IT'S A SAFETY CONCERN & NOW THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS LIT UP AT ALL TIMES & I DON'T KNOW IF THE AIRBAGS WILL WORK IN AN ACCIDENT. I CONTACTED HONDA AGAIN TODAY ABOUT THIS & EVEN WITH THE OPINION OF AN AUTO SHOP THEY ARE SAYING THEY CAN'T HELP SINCE THE VEHICLE ISN'T UNDER WARRANTY.

As a result, the vehicle crashed into the front end of his mother’s vehicle. The contact’s mother sustained whiplash to the neck. The contact’s mother was taken to the emergency room. The air bags did not deploy. No police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to Jiffy Lube where it was placed on a diagnostic, but the diagnosis could not be determined. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed of no recalls. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000
ISSUE: FOR PAST 6 MONTHS THESE ISSUES HAS BEEN OBSERVED IN MY HONDA ACCORD V6 EX-L AND HAS INCREASED IN PAST 1 MONTH AND HAS BEEN SEEN AT LEAST 3 TIMES IN PAST MONTH. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 65-70 MILES/HOUR ON A GRADIENT ROADS, THE POWER TRAIN RPM INCREASES TO IN EXCESS OF 4000 RPM AND THE CAR STALLS, CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO LOCKUP. YESTERDAY THIS HAPPENED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL ROAD CONDITION ,AND HAD TO PARK THE CAR, IS IT RELATED TO THESE RECALLS ?#11V395000, #11V004000,#10V640000 APPLY. *TR

Tires & wheels
Reports naming tires, wheels, hubs, or the tire-pressure monitoring system.
From owner reports, verbatim
235/45R18 94S M+S I originally purchased these tires because they were rated #2 on top 10 anti-hydroplaning lists. After receiving the tires I realized the anti-hydroplaning characteristics are due to an unusually deep tire tread. After driving them a bit I realized that the tire compound had excessive lack of grip on lightly wet surfaces and often on dry surfaces. So they may be good for anti-hydroplaning as long as the tree depth is deep, but the worst traction for dry or slightly wet surfaces for ANY tire I have ever driven. Going down slight downhills with a turn is extremely dangerous even at slow speeds. This morning I was going down a short street with a slight grade and a turn at the bottom when the car failed to turn and continued straight (like on ice). These tires (same on my wife's Mazda) have had traction problems since we bought and installed them. My wife's Mazda won't go up hills with turns on dry pavement and at slow speeds without losing traction. All tires on both vehicles have decent tread depth. This is a dangerous driving condition on uphill/w turns and especially on downhill/w turns. I believe the NTSB should do an investigation into car accident deaths occurring on graded hills with turns at the top or bottom of the inclinations. The tire in suspect is the Firestone Winterforce 2 tire. Please investigate this to possibly save lives. And if a high accident rate is found please have these tires recalled.
IN NOVEMBER, I PURCHASED 4 NEW CONTINENTAL EXTREMECONTACT DWS FOR MY CAR. IN MARCH, DURING POTHOLE SEASON, I QUICKLY LEARNED THAT THESE NEW TIRES HAVE SOFT SIDEWALLS AND EASILY DEVELOP SIDEWALL BUBBLES. I HAD TO REPLACE TWO OF THE TIRES DURING THIS TIME PERIOD. I'VE NEVER - IN MY 15 YEARS OF DRIVING - HAD TO REPLACE A TIRE DUE TO A SIDEWALL BUBBLE. CURIOUS, I TYPED "CONTINENTAL DWS SIDEWALL BUBBLE" INTO GOOGLE AND FOUND ONLINE FORUMS LOADED WITH FOLKS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE. IT'S PRETTY CLEAR BASED ON MY OWN EXPERIENCE, AND ONLINE REPORTS FROM OTHERS, THAT THE CONTINENTAL DWS TIRES HAVE WEAKER THAN USUAL SIDEWALLS, AND DEVELOP BUBBLES AT A MUCH HIGHER RATE THAN OTHER TIRES. AFTER SPENDING SO MUCH ON TIRES WITHIN A SIX MONTH PERIOD, I ASKED CONTINENTAL TO REPLACE JUST ONE OF THE TIRES UNDER WARRANTY (THE TIRE SHOP HAD MERCY AND REPLACED ONE FOR FREE!). CONTINENTAL'S INITIAL WARRANTY INCLUDES ROAD HAZARD PROTECTION FOR THE FIRST 2/10THS OF WEAR, WHICH THIS TIRE EASILY FELL UNDER. AFTER MEETING ALL OF CONTINENTAL'S REQUIREMENTS FOR THE WARRANTY INFORMATION, THEY HAVE STOPPED RESPONDING TO MY CUSTOMER SERVICE INQUIRIES. THEY SAID IT WOULD TAKE THREE WEEKS TO RECEIVE A CHECK. IT'S BEEN THREE MONTHS. PLEASE OPEN AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE SIDEWALL ISSUES OF THESE TIRES. IT IS CLEARLY A KNOWN ISSUE, AND CONTINENTAL REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY - EVEN WHEN THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY! MY NEXT COMPLAINT WILL BE FILED WITH THE FTC FOR FALSE WARRANTY CLAIMS, SINCE THEY REFUSE TO HONOR THE WARRANTY UNDER THE RULES THEY DEVELOPED; RULES THAT I MET. CONSIDER THIS FILED COMPLAINT MY OFFICIAL NOTICE TO CONTINENTAL. IF I DIE DUE TO A TIRE DEFECT, THIS NOTICE IS PLACED IN A FILE FOR MY LAWYER.
