2018 Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid Exterior lighting Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the exterior lighting system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Exterior lighting reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The Day Time Running light on the left side of the car just stopped working. The DRL is not damage. I checked for impact marks.

There is an issue with the front, right turn signal light flickering uncontrollably. This flickering is occurring during the vehicle’s operation, posing a significant safety risk as the amber light is incorrectly signaling to other vehicles on the road. The flickering also occurs while the vehicle is parked and off—draining the battery. It has been occurring intermittently with my vehicle for over two years. This issue is widely reported online, with dozens of posts on websites and forums.

WHILE THE VEHICLE HAS LED HEADLIGHTS, THE VISIBILITY AT NIGHT IS NOT THE BEST. THIS IS WORSE DURING RAINING DAYS, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT. THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE AN OPTION FOR FOG LIGHTS WHICH COULD HELP WITH THIS ISSUE. THE DRL IS REALLY JUST COSMETIC

THE HEADLIGHTS THAT COME WITH THE CAR ARE TOO DIM. IT BECOMES A HAZARD ON VERY DARK ROADS, SPECIALLY WHEN ITS RAINING. BECAUSE OF THE DIMNESS ITS IS ALSO DIFFICULT TO SEE WHEN THE VEHICLE DRIVES PAST YOU FROM THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION.IT RESULTS IN VEHICLE BEING DRIVEN THAN SLOWER SPEED LIMITS.

THE HEADLIGHTS THAT COME WITH THE CAR ARE TOO DIM, ESPECIALLY WHEN ITS RAINING AT NIGHT, JUST FORCES YOU TO SLOW DOWN A TON TO BE ABLE TO SEE THINGS.

THE HEADLIGHTS ARE TOTALLY INADEQUATE. LOW AND HIGH BEAMS ILLUMINATE ROAD ONLY DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF VEHICLE AND NOT ENOUGH FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD CAUSING AN UNSAFE CONDITION OF OVER DRIVING THE HEADLIGHTS.

THE HEADLIGHTS ARE TOTALLY INADEQUATE. LOW BEAMS ILLUMINATE ROAD ONLY DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF VEHICLE AND NOT ENOUGH FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD CAUSING AN UNSAFE CONDITION OF 'OVER DRIVING' THE HEADLIGHTS. THIS CONDITION PERSISTED EVEN AFTER HAVING A HONDA DEALER ADJUST THE HEADLIGHTS. IN ADDITION THE HIGH BEAMS ARE PRACTICALLY NON-EXISTENT COMPARED TO ALL OTHER VEHICLES I HAVE OWNED. THEY TOO ARE TOTALLY INADEQUATE. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO PASS A DOT TEST. IF THEY ARE ABLE TO PASS A DOT TEST THEN I WOULD SAY YOUR TEST IS NOT STRINGENT ENOUGH. THANK YOU FOR LOOKING INTO THIS TO SEE IF IT IS A SEVERE ENOUGH SAFETY ISSUE TO REQUIRE A RECALL.

HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE INADEQUATE. THEY WERE INITIALLY ADJUSTED TOO LOW, BUT EVEN AFTER ADJUSTING THEM, THEY ARE STILL TOO DIM. IT IS VERY EASY TO OVER-DRIVE THE REACH OF THE HIGH BEAMS.

THE HEADLAMPS DO NOT EXTEND OUT FAR ENOUGH CAUSING A SAFETY CONCERN. I HAVE HAD THEM ADJUSTED TWICE AND THEY STILL DO NOT EXTEND OUT ENOUGH.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
