2014 Honda Crosstour Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I am having problems with my car starting… even after replacing the starter 3 times. I am having the exact issue referenced in TSB No.16-002. I can hear the grinding noise but due to the incorrect positioning of the torque converter ring gear, the starter isn’t spinning the engine at startup even after replacing the starter. I can’t afford to keep replacing the starter and have my car not start everyday. Is Honda able to help with this issue?

ON SEPTEMBER 3,2018 WHILE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 81 S AT EXIT 39 IN SMYTHCOUNTY VIRGINIA, AS THIS DRIVER ACCELERATED UP TO SPEED, SAID VEHICLE'S CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED WITHOUT BEING PROMPTED BY THE DRIVER. THIS OCCURED AS THE VEHICLE SURPASSED 25MPH. THIS DRIVER NOTICED THE ACCELERATOR HAD BEEN TAKEN OVER BY CRUISE CONTROL AND IMMEDIATLEY ATTEMPTED TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL. AFTER CRUISE CONTROL BUTTONS WERE TURNED OFF THE ACCELERATION WAS NOT ALTERED; THE FIRST AVAILABLE EXIT RAMP WAS TAKEN, THIS DRIVER USED THE BRAKING SYSTEM TO DECELERATE TO THE SPEED IN WHICH THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS AUTOMATICALLY DISENGAGED. THIS DRIVER THEN TURNED THE VEHICLE'S IGNITION OFF, HOPING THE POWERING DOWN OF THE VEHICLE WOULD SERVE TO ALLEVIATE THE ISSUE. THIS DRIVER THEN TURNED TOWARD HOME, ONLY TO ENCOUNTER THE SAME PROBLEM. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN SLOWED TO THE SPEED OF AUTOMATIC DISSENGAGEMENT, THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THIS DRIVERS RESIDENCE AT A SPEED OF 25MPH OR LOWER TO KEEP THE CRUISE CONTROL FROM ACTIVATING.

I first experienced the ABS, Traction Control, and Brake warning lights on December 20, 2025, while driving. I knew something was wrong because whenever I turned the steering wheel, braked hard, or drove over potholes, all three lights would come on and remain lit for about a minute. Each time I turned the car off and restarted it, the lights would disappear. However, if I drove the vehicle for an extended period, the lights would eventually come back on. At first, I believed the issue was related to my brakes. I ordered new brakes and rotors and had them installed by my certified mechanic. Unfortunately, about an hour after the repair, the ABS, Traction Control, and Brake lights came on again. I immediately contacted my mechanic and brought the vehicle back in for a diagnostic test. The diagnostic results showed that the ABS module is faulty. My mechanic explained that this malfunction is what is causing all three warning lights to appear on my dashboard. I was advised that the ABS module must be replaced by the manufacturer or a dealership. After researching this issue, I discovered that this same problem has occurred on multiple occasions with Honda Crosstours over the years, indicating that this may be a known or recurring defect. I fear for my safety and life.

EPS FAILED AGAIN ON 2/22/21 WHILE TURNING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT (25 MPH) AND NEARLY WRECKED THE VEHICLE DUE TO LOSS OF POWER STEERING. DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND AWAITING A RESPONSE. THERE ARE TSBS (EPS WARRANTY EXTENSION) ISSUED BY AMERICAN HONDA BUT THE DEALER HAS NOT RECOGNIZED THESE COMMUNICATIONS.

The car is rusting on the inside door panel. This is being caused because the undercoating from the mafia missed spots under the rear wheel well. This is clearly a mafia defect. No one at Honda is willing to help. They blame it on the seat belt causing it to rust. The car only leaks when driving because the water enters the car when the wheels are moving. Other Crosstour owners are having the same problem.

FDW, LDW, TRAC, and ABS lights are on. Honda Service center ran a diagnostic check and recommended replacing VSA Modulator. Issue is common and is due to VSA modulator having small gauge wires. It is a design defect causing many VSA modulators to fail. Repair costs include $1,952 for the modulator plus labor. I ordered a replacement part in June 2023, but it has not yet arrived. I searched online. A YouTube video named "Why is this not a recall by Honda? ABS module Failure 2013 to 2017 and more" explains the issue. The YouTube video is posted by RB the mechanic. The comments under the video are from some people who encountered the same issue. It is an issue in a variety if Honda vehicles.

WHEN DRIVING ON DARK NARROW ROADS, THERE IS LITTLE OR NO VISIBILITY ON MY RIGHT SIDE UNLESS I TURN ON HIGH BEAMS--WHICH I CAN'T DO IF THERE IS ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON THE OTHER LANE. IF I GO UP AN INCLINE, I SEE WHAT APPEARS TO BE A DARK SHADE THAT LOWERS TO THE POINT THAT I CAN SEE JUST A LITTLE AT THE BOTTOM. AS I PULLED OUT OF THE DEALER'S GARAGE AT NIGHT, WHERE I FACE A ROW OF TALL TREES, THERE IS A DISTINCT SEPARATION OF LIGHT AND DARKNESS ACROSS THE TREES, WHICH THE DEALER SAID IS EXACTLY AS IT SHOULD BE. IT IS VERY FRIGHTENING WHEN I EXPERIENCE THE ABOVE, NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE A CURB, DITCH, ETC. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY EYES THE FIRST TIME WHEN ALONE, BUT SINCE THEN, TWO PASSENGERS WITNESSED THE SAME THING. IF THIS "IS AS IT SHOULD BE", IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS FLAW. AS FOR THE SEAT AND VISIBILITY ISSUES, I AM SHORT AND THE SEAT IS RAISED TO ITS MAXIMUM. THAT AND THE LITTLE LEDGE OUTSIDE THE WINDSHIELD OFTEN HINDERS MY VIEW OF CURBS, ESPECIALLY WHEN PULLING OUT OF PARKING LIT EXITS WITH CURBS ON BOTH SIDES. AS A RESULT, I HAVE JUMPED CURBS A NUMBER OF TIMES. I HAVE BEEN SITTING ON CUSHIONS BUT THAT STILL DOESN'T HELP MUCH--PLUS IT AFFECTS MY ALIGNMENT WITH THE LUMBAR SUPPORT.
