2006 Hummer H3 Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2006 Hummer H3, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Theses templates dosent recognize the key and kicks on the security system which stops the motor from turning on. So you are stuck for 10 minutes then you can try again all so sometimes the motor tries to turn on by just sticking the key in the ignition before you even turn it. By looking at youtube alot of the H3s and the Colorados do this

On the electrical, I refer to my air conditioning and heater. When I have my air selection to coldest and I drop 1 click for it to be less cool, my heater turns on and at times it smells like something burning. I have to turn it off . On the engine, after I hit 90,000 miles, I have to fill up my engine oil every 2-3 weeks because my vehicle is burning it quick or something. It doesn't leak oil at all. The oil just seems like it's burning somewhere and I ha e to be waisting money to buy oil $30 to $60 a month. Please help. Thank you!

THE INSIDE CHROME WHEELS OF MY WIFE'S 2006 HUMMER H3 ARE FLAKING OFF AND PEELING. PIECES OF THE DEBRIS COME LOOSE AT ALL TIMES (ESPECIALLY WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION). MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS THAT IT WILL INTERFERE WITH THE BRAKE PADS WHEN THEY ARE NEEDED TO SLOW/STOP THE VEHICLE. SINCE MY WIFE AND CHILDREN ARE IN THIS CAR MORE FREQUENTLY, I DO NOT WANT THIS TO BECOME AN INCIDENT THAT COULD LEAD TO AN AVOIDABLE ACCIDENT. I HAVE PICTURES THAT DETAIL MY CONCERN WITH THE INSIDE OF THE CHROME WHEELS THAT I COULD SEND TO YOU (SHOULD YOU NEED THEM).

NHTSA ID 11556476 · filed Nov 22, 2023

I was driving the vehicle at a normal rate of speed and stopped at a traffic light getting ready to change. I applied the brakes and when doing so, I heard some horrible noises and felt certain that parts had fallen out of the car. I knew something was immediately seriously wrong. I put the car in park (but it was effort and a grinding noise to put it in park) and stepped out to look under the car. No parts were on the ground, but something was leaking out of the bottom of the car. I got back in and put the car in drive to move it from the roadway knowing I was going to need assistance to tow it somewhere. It grinded trying to put it in any gear and only "revved" the engine when I tried to apply gas to drive it. There was absolutely no warning. The tow driver immediately noticed the drive shaft was disconnected and that was the leaking and thus going nowhere. My mechanic said that both leaf springs snapped off and that caused the drive shaft to sever, hitting the gas tank (or strap) and some other things. My concern is that there is a recall on leaf springs for every year Hummer H3 except mine as well as 1995-2015 Chevrolet, GMC, and Hummer leaf springs. I'm having a very difficult time with how both of mine snapped with no warning tearing all of these components out and it is not involved in the recall. It is the same parts on all of these. Also, my vehicle has spent the majority of its life garaged, never driven in the snow or rain, as I have babied this car. I have a car wash membership too and constantly keep this car meticulous. Hummer said that enough people need to complain, but I would not even have thought to complain had BOTH not snapped off simultaneously finding the recall for all other years while researching the cost. Had only 1 broke, I wouldn't have given it any thought. And Hummer said that they wouldn't even talk to me unless my car was at a GM dealership. This should be included in the recall. This is not pure coincidence. They need to fix it.

THE H3 WILL NOT START. DASH SCREEN KEEPS SHOWING THE PASSLOCK ACTIVATED AND WON'T TURN OFF. COMPUTER THINKS THE H3 IS BEING STOLEN. I HAVE TRIED TO RESET AND NO LUCK. I HAD THIS PROBLEM ABOUT 4 WEEKS AGO AND CHANGED THE FUEL PUMP. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN LAST WEEK AND NOW ON 28 MARCH 2020. ENGINE IS TURNING OVER AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS LIGHT UP, BUT SOUNDS LIKE FUEL IS NOT GETTING INTO THE FUEL PUMP AGAIN. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, FINDING OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE IS TO WAIT 10 MIN, STILL NO LUCK. WAITING 15 MIN SEEMED TO WORK BEFORE, BUT NOW IT DOESN'T. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO BE SAFELY IN THE VEHICLE, DRIVE SOMEWHERE AND THEN IT STALLS AGAIN? I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVEN'T HAD THIS ISSUE UNTIL IT STARTED 4 WEEKS AGO. WHAT IF THIS HAPPENS WHILE I AM DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND FUEL STOPS GOING TO THE PUMP? THIS COULD CAUSE A MULTI-VEHICLE ACCIDENT.

PURCHASED A 2006 HUMMER H3 FROM THE SELLER IN THIS COMPLAINT. I PAID EXACTLY $23,250 ALL CASH FOR THIS VEHICLE. HE ACTUALLY DROVE THE VEHICLE TO NEW JERSEY FROM MASS. TO MY RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE APPEARED TO BE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, AS IT ONLY HAD 14K MILES WHEN I BOUGHT IT ONLY 3-MONTH'S AGO. ONE WOULD HARDLY THINK OF "HIDDEN" ISSUES AT THAT MILEAGE. IN ANY EVENT, I HAVE HAD REPAIRS TO THE REAR AND FRONT DIFFERENTIAL, AS IT HAD A LEAK AND THE FRONT END WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT. THE MOST DISTURBING THING WAS THIS SELLER LIED TO ME AND MISREPRESENTED THE "TRUE" OR ACTUAL CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE. UNFORTUNATELY WHICH WOULD SURFACE AFTER HE LEFT WITH MY $23,250 IN CASH! I WOULD E-MAIL THE SELLER AND TOLD HIM HE MISREPRESENTED HIMSELF AND THE CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE AND HOW HE APPARENTLY ABUSED IT. MORE IMPORTANTLY, I DISCOVERED "EXCESSIVE" RUST UNDERNEATH THIS VEHICLE. BECAUSE THESE CONDITIONS WERE NOT DIVULGED TO ME BY MR. JOHNSON, I AM HAVING A HARD TIME SELLING THE VEHICLE THAT PRACTICALLY CLEANED OUT ALL OF MY SAVINGS. HE CLAIMED THIS TRUCK WAS GARAGED KEPT AND THAT HE DID NO OFF ROAD RIDING. THIS APPARENTLY IS TOTALLY UNTRUE, AS THE CAR WOULD NOT HAVE AS MUCH RUST AS IT IS LOADED WITH FOR A 2006! SO, CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT RECOURSE, I MAY HAVE AS A THE BUYER, BESIDES HIRING A PRIVATE ATTORNEY WHO I CAN'T AFFORD, AS I AM ON PERMANENT DISABILITY. THERE MUST I SOMETHING MY I CAN PURSUE UNDER ANY STATE OR FEDERAL CONSUMER LAWS, ESPECIALLY, SINCE THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY BY GENERAL MOTORS.. I SHOULD ALSO ADD THAT I AM HAVING DIFFICULTY WITH A LOCAL HUMMER DEALER "ROYAL HUMMER" IN FLORHAM PARK, WHO SEEMED RELUCTANT TO ADDRESS THE MANY ISSUES I AM HAVING WITH THIS HUMMER! I WOULD ALSO APPRECIATE IF YOU CAN FORWARD THIS COMPLAINT TO GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION, IN MICHIGAN, AS THEY SHOULD KNOW I AM HAVING DIFFICULTY WITH DEALERS WANTING TO HONOR,AS THEY SHOULD, ANY WARRANTY WORK! I AM PREPARED TO FILE EVERY COMPLAINT I COULD TO GET RESTITUTION FOR THIS APPARENT. *TR
