Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component
Data refreshed
What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1991 Hyundai Scoupe, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Reports naming the automatic or manual transmission, including shifting behaviour, shudder, slipping and transmission control modules.
From owner reports, verbatim
THIS CAR HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO THE DEALER THREE TIMES IN 1992 FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND HAS NEVER FIXED THE PROBLEM. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL PHONE CALLS TO DEALER IN PAST YEARS BUT WERE UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. THIS CAR HAS ALWAYS HAD JERKING ON EXCELLERATION, FAST IDLE WHEN DOING 20, 30 AND 40 MPH. IT NOW STALLS AND SLIPS OUT OF GEAR. IT HAS LURCHED FORWARD IN THE PAST FROM A STOP. THIS CAR HAS NEVER RUN RIGHT AS FAR AS THE TRANSMISSION IS CONCERNED BUT HYUNDAI DOES NOT WANT TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
