The defect: STEERING ARM MAY CRACK AFTER REPEATED FULL LOCK TURNS DUE TO THE LACK OF END-OF-TRAVEL RELIEF FEATURES. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL WOULD BE EXPERIENCED IF CRACKS EXPAND TO COMPLETE FRACTURE OF THE ARM, AND A CRASH COULD OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
The remedy: REPLACE STEERING ARM WITH A REDESIGNED STRENGTHENED ARM.

The defect: WITHIN THE STEERING SYSTEM, HIGH OPERATING TEMPERATURES MAY CAUSE EVENTUAL DETERIORATION OF THE HOSE WHICH RETURNS POWER STEERING FLUID TO THE PUMP. THE HOSE MAY RUPTURE AND POWER STEERING ASSIST WILL BE LOST.
The remedy: DEALER WILL REPLACE THE POWER STEERING HOSE AND INSTALL A HEAT SHIELD BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND HOSE AT NO CHARGE.

NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
