Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.
0
Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL

Nov 20, 2015
15,730 units potentially affected
The defect: Navistar, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 International ProStar and DuraStar trucks manufactured April 26, 2012, to April 4, 2013, WorkStar trucks manufactured April 27, 2012, to March 29, 2013, LoneStar trucks manufactured May 21, 2012, to April 2, 2013, and TranStar trucks manufactured April 30, 2012, to March 25, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the accelerator pedal position sensor can move and result in a high engine idle.
The risk: A high engine idle may make downshifting the transmission difficult and the engine brake may be disabled. These factors may hinder slowing down the truck when descending a long grade, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will recalibrate the electronic control module (ECM) to allow it to recognize that the pedal is at the idle position, free of charge. The recall began on January 19, 2016. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 15517.

TRAILER HITCHES:FIFTH WHEEL ASSEMBLY

Sep 29, 2015
3,776 units potentially affected
The defect: Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 International ProStar trucks manufactured May 18, 2010, to April 5, 2013, 2012-2014 International LoneStar trucks manufactured September 7, 2011, to March 25, 2013, and 2011-2013 International TranStar trucks manufactured October 18, 2010, to February 20, 2013. The affected trucks are equipped with Fontaine Ultra LT Fifth Wheel connectors, which, due to cumulative damage to the fifth wheel and its locking mechanism, have a locking mechanism that may fail to operate or to properly engage.
The risk: If the fifth wheel and locking mechanism are sufficiently damaged, the locking mechanism may fail to operate as intended and the trailer may unexpectedly detach from the tractor, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Navistar will notify owners, and Fontaine dealers will replace the fifth wheel with an Ultra NT model fifth wheel, free of charge. The recall began on November 18, 2015. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825, or Fontaine customer service at 1-844-597-7393.

VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER/HVAC SYSTEM:FAN/MOTOR

Apr 22, 2015
82,736 units potentially affected
The defect: Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain model year 2011-2015 International DuraStar, ProStar, TranStar and WorkStar, 2012-2015 International TerraStar, 2013-2015 International LoneStar and IC Bus HC, and 2014-2015 IC Bus AC vehicles. A vehicle double battery jump start or electrical load dump event could result in an overvoltage condition of a component within the HVAC system linear power module (LPM) which is used to control the blower speed. The overvoltage condition could result in the overheating and failure of the LPM.
The risk: If the LPM overheats and fails, there is an increased risk of a fire.
The remedy: Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the LPM with an upgraded one, free of charge. An interim letter was mailed to owners on June 18, 2015. A second notification will mailed when parts become available. The recall began on August 6, 2015. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 15509.

This article describes how to fix a speedometer that does not read accurately. An inaccurate speedometer can be caused by changing the tire size, changing rear axle ratio (RAR), or by parameters being inadvertently changed during a programming event. Use the formulas and calculator below to correct the pulses per mile (PPM).

This article only applies to Models w/ 0016UZL Built Between 06/23/2014 – 05/11/2020 OR Models w/ 0016UZL w/ Safety Recall 14516 Completed Reference the appropriate Technician Manual for models outside of this population. Safety Recall 14516 has been issued for units built before June 23, 2014. For LT and 2018+ LoneStar: If there is a complaint of the bunk blower turning off after an auto start event, the BCM needs to be updated to Data Version 323 or higher. • The bunk blower turning off was only present in BCM Data Version 309 to Data Version 322 To properly diagnose the system, you must ensure the recall has been performed. Only the "Cold Loop" sealed refrigerant core PN # 2614669C1 is to be replaced when the refrigerant circuit fails. DO NOT REPLACE THE COMPLETE UNIT IF THE A/C IS NOT FUNCTIONING. Complete unit is not Warrantable Refer to the BASIC TROUBLESHOOTING below before replacing any components. This will help you identify which component is at fault or any electrical issues. Refer to PARTS INFORMATION to properly identify the parts that may require replacement The A/C portion of the system is listed below in the parts section. The 16UZL No-Idle HVAC system is designed to disengage when the engine is started, and can be turned on with the key in any position. This battery-powered no-idle HVAC system provides heating and cooling of the sleeper area without use of the vehicle engine. The system is comprised of the no-idle HVAC components located in the sleeper HVAC module, a separate fuel-operated coolant heater mounted under the sleeper, and four additional batteries housed in a second battery box. The no-idle HVAC system shares the air handling assembly and several major components with the truck's standard HVAC system. Most importantly, the shared evaporator core contains refrigerant circuits for both the no idle system and the truck's standard A/C system. With this configuration, some procedures required to service the no idle A/C system will require opening the refrigerant circuit of the truck's standard A/C system. Trucks equipped with the 16UZL No-Idle HVAC system have two separate HVAC systems (Standard Truck A/C and the MaxxPower unit); it is important to identify each clearly, so you are troubleshooting the correct system. Per the Operator's Manual page 10: Run the heater at least once a month during the year (for a minimum of 15 minutes).

This tool is designed to compare Diamond Logic feature data across multiple vehicle configuration files. It allows users to quickly load files either manually or directly from the Diamond Logic Builder Vehicles folder using VIN-based selection. As files are added or removed, the comparison runs automatically with no manual action required. The program presents results in an interactive table that shows feature codes, descriptions, access levels, and whether each feature is present in each selected file. Built-in search, filtering, and sorting make it easy to locate specific features or focus only on differences between files. Column visibility can be customized to show or hide descriptions and access information as needed. Users can remove files individually or clear all files at once, with results updating instantly. The tool also includes reporting and export options that reflect exactly what is visible on screen, allowing results to be printed, copied, saved as text, or exported to CSV for use in Excel or other spreadsheet tools. Overall, the program streamlines the process of comparing vehicle feature configurations, helping users quickly identify differences, validate setups, and document results without manual comparison or external tools.
