June 5, 2017, Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) notified NHTSA of a safety-related defect in certain 2017 Jay Flight Bungalow, Hummingbird, White Hawk, Jay Flight SLX, Jay Feather 7, Jay Feather and Jay Flight fifth wheel recreational trailers. A recall, 17V-290 was filed. According to the Report, the trailers are equipped with LED ceiling lights that produce extreme high temperature during normal use which may cause light failure. Some of the failure characteristics noted are melting of the plastic housing, smoldering, and charred and scorched ceiling panels. The excessive heat from the LED ceiling lights may increase the risk of a fire.Jayco identified Command Electronics, Inc. (Command) as the supplier of the ceiling lights. Command has indicated that it supplied the same component to other manufacturers, but has not yet filed a defect information report in accordance with 49 C.F.R. ?573.3(f).RMD opened EQ investigation in 07/21/2017 to obtain information regarding the additional manufacturers that were supplied with the component identified by Jayco, and to determine whether additional safety recalls are required by any of those identified companies.Two years past, RMD found not enough evidences that the same LED ceiling lights would produce extreme high temperature during normal use from other users beside Jayco, Inc. RMD is satisfied with findings. Accordingly, this EQ is closed.
