2006 Itasca Cambria Recalls

Safety recall campaigns filed with NHTSA that cover this model year

Recalls apply to specific vehicles, not to every vehicle of a model year. Check your VIN with NHTSA or your manufacturer's dealer to confirm whether a recall affects your vehicle.

Recall campaignsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

Recall campaigns

4 campaigns cover this model year — what the defect is, what it could cause, and what the remedy is

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY

Aug 12, 2008
31 units potentially affected
The defect: WINNEBAGO IS RECALLING 31 MY 2006-2008 ITASCA CAMBRIA, HORIZON, WINNEBAGO ACCESS, ADVENTURER, JOURNEY, MINNIE WINNIE, SIGNTSEER, TOUR, VECTRA, AND VOYAGE MOTOR HOMES EQUIPPED WITH RICON PLATFORM STYLE WHEELCHAIR LIFTS. THESE LIFTS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 403, "PLATFORM LIFT SYSTEMS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES." THE ANTI-STOW INTERLOCK MAY NOT DETECT THE PRESENCE OF A WHEELCHAIR OR MOBILITY AID USER. THE PRESSURE SENSING SWITCH THAT DETECTS THE PRESENCE OF WEIGHT ON THE PLATFORM WAS NOT ADJUSTED TO THE NECESSARY SENSITIVITY LEVEL. THE LIFT COULD STOW EVEN THOUGH SOMEONE OR SOMETHING IS STILL ON THE LIFT.
The risk: A LIFT OCCUPANT CAN BE INJURED SHOULD THE LIFT BEGIN TO STOW UNINTENTIONALLY.
The remedy: WINNEBAGO IS WORKING WITH RICON TO CORRECT THE WHEELCHAIR LIFTS (PLEASE SEE 07E097). OWNERS MAY CONTACT RICON AT 1-800-322-2884 OR WINNEBAGO AT 1-641-585-3535.

EQUIPMENT:RECREATIONAL VEHICLE/TRAILER

Aug 1, 2006
919 units potentially affected
The defect: ON CERTAIN MOTORHOMES,THE FLAME ON THE COOKING RANGE MAY BE FORCED DOWNWARD OVER THE BURNER OR FLAME OUTAGE MAY OCCUR WHEN THE COOKING RANGE AND FURNACE ARE OPERATED AT THE SAME TIME. THIS IS DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF A MISSING OR INCOMPLETE CABINET PANEL THAT ISOLATES THE FURNACE RETURN AIR.
The risk: IF THE FURNACE IS OPERATED AT THE SAME TIME AS THE STOVE AND THE CABINET PANEL IS MISSING OR INCOMPLETE, THE STOVE FLAME MAY GO OUT AND THE PROPANE GAS WILL CONTINUE TO FLOW, WHICH HAS THE POTENTIAL TO IGNITE RESULTING IN PERSONAL INJURY, VEHICLE AND PROPERTY DAMAGE.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE CABINET ASSEMBLY AND, IF THE CABINENT PANEL IS MISSING OR INCOMPLETE, THE PANEL WILL BE INSTALLED OR REPAIRED. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 10, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT WINNEBAGO AT 1-641-585-6939.

STRUCTURE:BODY

Dec 28, 2005
193 units potentially affected
The defect: ON CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES EQUIPPED WITH KWIKEE BRAND ELECTRIC STEPS, THE STEPS MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH DEFECTIVE STEP CONTROL UNITS.
The risk: THE DEFECTIVE CONTROL UNITS COULD DEVELOP AN ELECTRICAL SHORT ALLOWING FOR THE POTENTIAL OF THE PLASTIC CASE TO IGNITE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR VEHICLE AND PROPERTY DAMAGE.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE KWIKEE STEP AND REPLACE THE STEP CONTROL UNIT, IF NECESSARY, FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 23, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT WINNEBAGO AT 1-800-537-1885.

Oct 13, 2005
3,613 units potentially affected
The defect: ON CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES BUILT ON FORD CHASSIS, THE FASTENERS HOLDING THE FUEL TANK MOUNTING STRAPS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN PROPERLY TIGHTENED, ALLOWING THE POSSIBILITY FOR THE FUEL TANK TO LOOSEN AND FALL.
The risk: IF THE FUEL TANK FALLS, THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR THE TANK TO IGNITE, RESULTING IN PERSONAL INJURY, VEHICLE AND PROPERTY DAMAGE.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND PROPERLY TIGHTEN THE FASTENERS TO THE FUEL TANK STRAPS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 15, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT WINNEBAGO AT 614-585-6939.

What a recall is

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
Safety investigation
NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Safety investigations

NHTSA inquiries naming this vehicle. An investigation is not a finding of a defect, and it is not a recall.

PE10048ClosedPreliminary Evaluation

Hitch Receiver Fracture

Opened Dec 7, 2010
Closed Dec 3, 2013

During this investigation, ODI identified 29 reports of cracked and/or fractured hitch receiver assemblies installed on the subject vehicles. The majority (27 of 29) of the reported hitch incidents occurred prior to the initiation of PE10-048 in December, 2010.This investigation has been characterized by (1) Scant forensic samples available for inspection and review since most of the reported incidents occurred prior to ODI?s investigation and pertinent material has been scrapped; (2) Uncertainty regarding the contributory role of issues such as unintended hitch contact with road surfaces, use of hitches with offsets that exceed Winnebago recommendations; and (3) Other usage factors.Based on reported failures, the indicated failure rate for detected and reported cracking /fracture incidents associated with the estimated population of subject vehicles was found to be 0.10% after the vehicles had been in service for between 6 and 8 years.Reports were higher in calendar year 2007 (9 reports) than in succeeding years 2008-2010 (3-5 reports per year) and 2011 (2 reports) and appear likely to decline further due to diminished use associated with vehicle aging.ODI is aware of only one consumer complaint (ODI# 10368002) in its files describing a hitch receiver malfunction in Winnebago-Itasca vehicles. As of September 2013, Winnebago has reported that there have been no additional incidents of cracked or fractured hitch receivers reported since the most recent incident reported in May 2011.A safety-related defect has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency will take further action if warranted by the circumstances. For more detailed information, see the attached closing report.
