Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

What owners report

Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded

  • Airbags133.3%
  • Brakes133.3%
  • Seat belts133.3%

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

Safety recalls

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

ON 07-24-2000 I WAS FORCED TO SLAM ON MY BRAKES TO TRY TO AVOID HITTING THE REAR END OF A CHEVROLET S-10 PICKUP TRUCK . MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKES LOCKED UP AND I SKIDDED ABOUT 20 FEET BEFORE IMPACTING THE REAR OF THE S-10 WHO HAD ALREADY HIT A RED VAN THAT SLAMMED ON BRAKES TO AVOID A DOG. UPON IMPACT, MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. BOTH MY PASSANGER AND I WERE WEARING SEATBELTS. MY PASSANGER SUSTAINED WHIPLASH AND BOTH LEGS WERE INJURED FROM UNDERNEATH DASH BOARD. I ALSO SUSTAINED WHIPLASH TO MY NECK AND BACK. I REPORTED THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE AND AIR-BAGS FAILURES TO DAIMLER-CHRYSLER MANUFACTURE. I WAS TOLD A SAFETY INSPECTOR WOULD CONTACT ME. HE DID. HIS NAME WAS DON WADE. HE WANTED ME TO DRIVE THE JEEP TO A DEALERSHIP BUT I TOLD HIM HE COULD COME TO MY HOME AS I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AS IT WAS ALREADY A SAFETY HAZARD FROM MECHANICAL PROBLEMS CHRYSLER REFUSED TO FIX AND NOW WITH THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES FAILING AND AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING, I WAS AFRAID TO PUT IT ON THE ROAD. I ALSO TOLD HIM I WAS AFRAID IF I HIT A BUMP OR POTHOLE IN THE ROAD, THE AIR BAGS WOULD DEPLOY SINCE THEY DIDN'T UPON IMPACT. HE IS SUPPOSED TO CALL ME AGAIN WITHIN THE NEXT TWO DAYS AND HE WAS NOT VERY NICE AT ALL. CHRYSLER HAS ALREADY VIOLATED A MEDIATION DECISION ON THIS VEHICLE AND NOW THERE ARE THESE SAFETY ISSUES AS WELL. I DO NOT TRUST DAIMLER CHRYSLER, THEIR DEALERSHIPS, ESPECIALLY CROSSROADS JEEP IN INDIANAPOLIS SINCE THEY HAVE ALREADY LIED AND REFUSED TO HONOR THE MEDIATOR'S SUPPOSEDLY BINDING DECISION ON PREVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. *AK

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
