1996 Jayco Eagle Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1996 Jayco Eagle, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

WE OWN A 1996 JAYCO EAGLE 244SL TRAVEL TRAILER. ON THE FRONT OF THE TRAILER IS A STORAGE AREA WHICH IS MADE OF ABS PLASTIC. LAST YEAR, WE DEVELOPED A CRACK IN THE LID FOR THE STORAGE AREA WHICH IS ALSO MADE OF ABS PLASTIC AND A CRACK IN THE ABS PLASTIC WHCIH FORMS THE STORAGE AREA. ALL THE CRACKS ARE DEVELOPING FROM EITHER WHERE A POP RIVET OR A SCREW WAS PLACED IN THE ABS PLASTIC. THE CRACKS APPEAR TO BE SOME KIND OF STRESS CRACK WHICH IS CAUSED BY THE IMPOPERR DESIGN AND INSTALLATION OF THE STORAGE AREA. OVER THIS PAST WINTER, ANOTHER CRACK DEVOLPED IN THE LID OF THE STORAGE AREA. IT APPEARS THAT THE STORAGE AREA IS FALLING APART WHICH COULD CAUSE DEBRIS FROM THE TRAILER TO BE DISCARDED ON THE HIGHWAY. I CONTACTED JAYCO EARLIER THIS YEAR AND ADVISED THEM OF THE PROBLEM. I TOLD A COMPANY REP. THAT MY PROBLEM APPEARED TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDED TO BE ADDRESSED BY JAYCO. THE COMPANY REP TOLD ME THAT MY TRAILER WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I SHOULD HAVE THIS SAFTEY ISSUE FIXED MYSELF AT MY OWN EXPENSE. IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT IF A PRODUCT IS FALLING APART, THE COMPANY SHOULD REPAIR IT SO IT DOESN'T CAUSE HARM TO THE PUBLIC. *AK
