My 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer has experienced repeated safety-related defects involving the body, electrical, and powertrain systems despite 6 warranty repair visits. The vehicle has been out of service 72 cumulative days, and the current repair still ongoing. Before the most serious incident, the vehicle had already been returned to authorized Jeep dealerships multiple times for liftgate malfunctions. The liftgate repeatedly failed to open, failed to close properly, and exhibited intermittent malfunctions. These defects were repeatedly reproduced and confirmed by the dealer, and Wagoneer engineering was consulted to diagnose and repair the vehicle. The defects have not been permanently corrected. While driving on a multi-lane roadway with my children seated in the 3rd row, the rear liftgate suddenly opened without any warning light/message/alert/beep. This was the 1st time it had opened while driving. Personal belongings were ejected across 3 lanes of traffic, creating a risk of striking other vehicles or causing another driver to swerve or crash. My husband had to enter multiple lanes of traffic to retrieve our belongings before they were struck, creating an additional safety hazard, leaving us sitting in traffic in the vehicle. To my knowledge, the vehicle should not have permitted normal operation if the liftgate was not securely latched. Instead, the liftgate opened while the vehicle was in motion without any indication to the driver, eliminating any opportunity to react or prevent the incident. The vehicle has also experienced repeated lurching/harsh clunking when shifting into gear, and unexpected lurching/hard shifting and when on hills. Numerous warning lights, messages, and check engine lights have occurred since approx. 300 miles and have been dealer verified. Due to these defects remaining unresolved despite repeated repair attempts, I do not believe this vehicle can be operated safely. I am scared for my teen drivers and pedestrians in this vehicle.

I was at a stoplight, waiting to making a U-turn. The light turned green release the brake and went to hit the gas. The entire vehicle shut off. I lost all power and had to restart the vehicle in the middle of the intersection with vehicles behind me. It took at least 30 seconds and I ended up having to wait a cycle on the light because I couldn’t go at the time. Once I got the car back on, I lost power steering and my check engine light came on. I was able to make it to parking lot. Once I got there, I parked in the parking space the vehicle did the automatic shut off to conserve energy once I parked I press the button to shut that feature off when I did it the vehicle shut off again. I lost power to everything and had to restart the engine. This has happened multiple times as I believe it’s related to the electrical system and the automatic shut off. I’ve also had multiple other issues with the vehicle in the electrical system. The most recent being that pulling out of a parking lot onto the highway my vehicle would not shift gears, and I had to pull over to the side of the road as I could not get out of first gear. It ended up being the electrical components of the transmission. At the time of the incident listed above, I had just picked up the vehicle from having this issue replaced and had it for less than six hours when this other issue happened. We bought this vehicle used with roughly 58,000 on March 17, 2026, I’ve owned it for just over two months and in those two months it’s been in the shop more than we’ve been able to drive it due to a series of electrical incidents that causes the check engine light to go on or the vehicle to shut off.

ElectricalFuel system
Filed Feb 9, 2026
I am filing this complaint regarding my 2023 Jeep Wagoneer, which I have owned for approximately 1.5 years. Since purchasing the vehicle, I have experienced repeated and ongoing mechanical failures, primarily involving the fuel injection system and chronic battery drainage. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership for fuel‑related issues more than five times. During these visits, the fuel pump was replaced, but the problems continued. The vehicle repeatedly triggered check‑engine lights related to the fuel system. At one point, the dealership bypassed or cleared the check‑engine indicator without resolving the underlying problem. After this, the vehicle began performing noticeably differently, including a significant drop in fuel efficiency—going from approximately 18 MPG to around 14 MPG. In addition to the fuel system defects, the vehicle has had persistent battery issues. The battery drains unexpectedly and frequently dies without warning. Even after replacing the battery, the new battery lasted only about three months before the same drainage problems began again. The vehicle will randomly shut down or stop functioning correctly until another battery replacement is performed. These issues raise serious concerns about the safety, reliability, and overall drivability of the vehicle. The repeated failures of both the fuel system and electrical/battery system pose potential safety hazards while driving and have made the vehicle unreliable for normal use. I am requesting that NHTSA review these recurring problems, as they appear to indicate systemic defects affecting vehicle performance and safety.

An overheating engine causes the truck to shut down completely, block the power steering engine, and become undrivable. Electrical and harness assembly problems The dealership inspected the truck and attempted to repair it, but the same issues have recurred and are nearly causing an accident while driving on a highway.

While driving my 2023 Grand Wagoneer the Serv 4WD light and dash spelled out Service four wheel drive, it lit up the anti collision light, ECS, TCS, and HOLD!. The parking brake also engaged automatically while driving at least 4 times. This is a serious safety concern to allow a vehicle to continue driving with the ability to automatically engage the parking brake while driving. The safety of my entire family was put at risk. I currently have the vehicle sitting at the dealership to be diagnosed and reproduced as the vehicle lost all power after this incident. Another serious safety concern is the total loss of power with no notice. This could easily have been while I was driving and caused a serious accident and possible fatalities.

We took the car home on 5/4/24 & while drive it home we started to get a binging noise, I got scared I thought the car was braking down & a message came on the instrument panel Driver 1 info & then it went away & then a few minutes later more binging this message was check 2nd row seat belt latch, stop driving also the screen, radio, and air conditioner, shut off then it come back on after a while. We had a lot going on & we had to wait for a passenger side mirror to come in because of prior damage being done to it & scratch marks that need to be buffed & everything could be done at one time.Still driving the car and picked up my parents at the airport 5/15/24 and same electrical issue coming across the instrument panel. On 5/22/24 took my parents to the airport and they were in the 2nd row seats & the 2nd row latch message came up three different time while I was driving @ 70 mph and couldn't do anything didn't have a screen, radio, air conditioner or anything. On 6/4/24 the engine light came on while driving & stayed on.Took it in on 6/5/24 & they couldn't duplicate any of the problems and they must of just reset the engine light because we pick up the car on 6/6/24 & when I driving home both the 2nd row seat belt issue come on, & Driver 1 Info I was doing 41mph when it shows up on the instrument panel & the check engine light came on the next day 6/7/24 we took it to another Dealership & they were able to duplicate all the problems. From all the service records that I can see there has been electrical system problems sense10/2/23, 2/19/24, 2/26/24 also wiring repaired done & all these issues where reported by two different Dealership before being purchased by us and the problems still keep happening 5/4/24,5/6/24,5/7/24,5/8/24,5/9/24,5/10/24,5/15/24,5/18/24,5/22/24, 6/4/24,6/5/24,6/6/24, & the seat belt problem sense 2/15/24 & continue until this day. To the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):Subject: Safety Issue Report: UConnect System Malfunction in Jeep VehicleDear NHTSA,I am writing to report a significant safety concern with the UConnect system in my Jeep, which has been malfunctioning for the past four months. The system's failure to recognize voice commands and manage remote commands compromises the vehicle's safety features, including hands-free calling and potentially emergency assistance services. This issue is covered under warranty, yet despite repeated attempts to have it addressed by Jeep, there has been no resolution. The malfunctioning UConnect system, crucial for safe vehicle operation by minimizing driver distraction, is not responding correctly, indicating a possible hardware or software failure. Given the importance of such systems for vehicle safety and the refusal of the manufacturer to correct the problem under warranty, I am seeking your intervention to ensure the issue is adequately addressed.I believe this could represent a broader safety issue that may affect other drivers and request that the NHTSA investigate the matter further to ensure vehicle safety is not compromised.Sincerely, XXXXX Attached is my husband's email communication chain. Other complaint information will be available from the Jeep internal system. We are not sure if this is an electrical problem. But we reported issues that seemed unrelated up until now whereas a strange smell and electrical malfunctions existed from the moment we purchased the vehicle brand new. It is odd that only select services requiring telecommunications don't work, but they do seem to work to contact Jeep. We mentioned this smell as exhaust or burning smells in the vehicle but were told this is normal essentially and have still not gotten a response from a Technical Team that either doesn't exist or is nor actively addressing the issue. It seems to be electronics involved and UConnect may be tertiary to the issue.

We brought this Brand-new Wagoneer on April 19th, 2023, since then we've been having a lot of issues with the vehicle, On August 7th, the electrical system failed we took it to the dealer, and they upgraded for us. Again, 3 weeks later while I was driving home from Sam's club, the power steering light keeps flashing, I had trouble with the wheels i pulled to the side turned off the car for 5 minutes then light went off and I was able to drive again. Few days ago, on October 16th the vehicle electrical system shut off again, none of the buttons inside the vehicle works, the screen went off completely. I was too busy at work that day and did not have time to drop off the vehicle. On Wednesday October 18th after I pick up my daughter from school, the vehicle completely shut off at a Gas station, I decided that vehicle was not safe to drive and decided to drop it to the dealer, as I was leaving the Gas Station nothing works inside the car and we hit a pole at the gas station which severely damaged the front Bumper. We reached out to Jeep and was told to drop the car to the nearest Jeep dealer, and they will fix it. When we got there, they fixed only the electrical problems inside the car but refuse to fix the bumper which was cause by the forward collision avoidance system failure to engage due to the electrical problems. We pick up the car Saturday morning now the automatic break light is on, and the battery keep discharging. We want your firm to please help us as it not safe to drive that vehicle now. We are very afraid and wants jeep to either replace the vehicle with another one or fully refund the purchase price.
