2019 Jeep Renegade Driver assistance Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The uconnect screen has gone completely black. The uconnect screen in this vehicle controls every feature on the vehicle. It controls my speedometer. This feature is now stuck in Canadian reading so I can't tell how fast I am driving. This controls my millage. Again it is in Canadian milage, I don't know how many miles I have on my vehicle. This feature controls my back up camera. This controls every feature in my vehicle. I have no control over anything now.

The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Screen has bubbling starting to appear on it, ghost touch is activating every button on the screen. Doesn’t stop when restarted and causes for navigation system to be hindered. This is a safety hazard because it is spreading across the screen and could potentially cause navigations and air conditioner system lost. When pressure is applied, stops momentarily.

The backup up camera screen stops working when the car is warm. The screen divides into three columns. As it warms up the columns fail. They become electronically distorted beyond recognition and eventually go black. This backup camera screen is also the touch screen that controls lots of functions of the vehicle. Defroster, climate controlls, radio, hands free phone usage, car settings for lights, horns, and much more. The car is available for inspection upon request. There is a large blind spot behind the vehicle when backing up. We only buy a car if it has a backup camera. We do not ever want to back over a child. The camera and viewing screen must work to help prevent this. On this vehicle it does not work. Unacceptable. We called the dealership. They are familiar with the problem. It happens to many jeeps they said. They quoted us $1050 dollars to fix it. I went online and found that many people that had paid to have this repaired at the dealership, had the screens fail again soon after the repair. We have not had it repaired yet. Because we don't have confidence that Jeep has a viable solution yet. It has not been inspected by anyone yet. The problem starts to appear as a separation of the screen into three columns. One by one, those columns begin to fail. They fail rather quickly. As the vehicle gets warmer, the screen fails faster. Often the screen doesn't work at all when you first turn the car on. There have not been any warning signs or lights warning us of a failure. The failure started around August 2024. The vehicle had only 24500 miles.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that while shifted into reverse, the Back Over Prevention camera screen became distorted. The contact stated that while shifted in drive, the screen displayed as if the vehicle was in the reverse for several minutes before the display went back to normal. The sound system warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the inner panel had detached, and the radio and screen needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall and that the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

I TRIED AGAIN AND THE SECOND TIME THE BRAKES WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, THEY DID NOT WORK. I WAS SO SCARED I DIDNT KNOW WHAT TO DO I COULD'NT STOP THE CAR IT TURNED BACK ON BY ITSELF AND THE BRAKES WORKED AGAIN. SECOND TIME THE CAR MALFUNCTION MY HUSBAND AND I WENT TO PICK UP A PIZZA AND WE PUT THE CAR IN PARK, THE CAR SHUT OFF AND SO DID THE GPS SCREEN. IT CAME BACK ON RIGHT AWAY AND NOTHING ELSE HAPPENED THAT NIGHT. THIRD OCCASION THAT I WAS IN THE VEHICLE AND IT MALFUNCTION WE GOT IN THE CAR AND MY HUSBAND TURNED THE CAR ON AS HE PUT IT DRIVE AS WE WERE LEAVING THE FRONT OF THE CAR LIKE THE WHEELS MADE A POPPING SOUND AND THE ENGINE GOT REALLY LOUD. THE ENGINE NOISE ONLY LASTED ABOUT TWO MINUTES AND WENT AWAY. MY HUSBAND DID TELL THE DEALER WERE WE BOUGHT IT FROM AND ALSO JEEP/CHRYSLER IS AWARE THAT THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN MALFUNCTIONING. THERE IS A LIQUED COMING OUT OF THE BRAKES OR CALIPER THAT ITS YELLOW, THAT IS NOT SAVE AND SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING ESPECIALLY ON A BRAND NEW VEHICLE. THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW AS WELL DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY, IT STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OR IT JUST DOES NOT WORK. THE SALESMAN WHO SOLD US THE CAR MENTIONED TO MY HUSBAND THAT THE CAR IDLES AND THAT CAR DOES NOT DO THAT. ALSO WE WERE TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE IS SUPPOSE TO DETECT ANY OBJECTS NEAR IT AND MAKE A BEEPING NOISE WHICH DOES NOT HAPPEN AT ALL.THEN WE TOOK IT TO THREE DEALERS TWO OF THEM WHO DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND ONE OF THEM DID FIND THE ISSUES WE HAVE STATED. THEY TOLD US THAT THE WARANTY DOES NOT COVER THE ISSUES. MY HUSBAND SPOKE TO CHRYSLER AND THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING. THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE.
