1990 Jeep Wrangler Interior & seats Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the interior system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Interior & seats reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

THE NOTED VEHICLE IS IN EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD CONDITION AND METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED. IT HAS NEVER BEEN ABUSED OR USED IN A MANNER NOT INTENDED. MY JEEP AND NUMEROUS OTHERS THAT I HAVE BEEN FAMILIAR WITH HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. THE FRONT SEATS BREAK AT THE POINT WHERE THE REAR SEAT BRACKETS BOLT TO THE SEAT. THIS IS ALSO WHERE THE SEAT BACK IS SUPPORTED. FROM INSPECTION IT APPEARS TO BE POOR DESIGN AND METAL FATIGUE. I HAVE ONLY NOTED THIS PROBLEM ON SEATS THAT HAVE A FIXED SEAT BACK/NON RECLINING. THE FAILURE ON MY JEEP WAS A SHOCK DUE TO THE LOW MILAGE AND MILD USE. IN THAT THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IT WAS THOUGHT THAT NHSTA MIGHT BE INTERESTED. NEEDLESS TO SAY JEEPS ARE INTENDED FOR OFF ROAD USE AND SEAT FAILURES EVEN ON OLDER MODELS ARE A CONCERN.*AK
