The defect: Kalmar Solutions, LLC (Kalmar) is recalling certain 2019 Ottawa T2E battery electric vehicles. The transmission tailshaft speed sensor can be affected by electromagnetic interference, causing the transmission to shift unexpectedly.
The risk: The shifting of the transmission can cause unexpected vehicle movement, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Kalmar will notify owners and TransPower will replace the transmission tail shaft sensor and update software, free of charge. The recall began February 12, 2020. Owners may contact Kalmar customer service at 1-785-229-6327.

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
