1999 Kawasaki VN1500 Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

DRIVING IN THE FAR LEFT LANE OF A 6 LANE HIGHWAY DOING ABOUT 75 MPH. EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE ON 1999 KAWASAKI VULCAN NOMAD AND COMPLETE ENGINE STALL TWO VEHICLES BEHIND ME ALMOST RAN ME OVER AND ENDED UP WITH ONE REAR ENDING ANOTHER. I NARROWLY ESCAPED A HIT FROM BEHIND. SOME INTERNET SEARCHES REVEALS THAT THIS LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE IS COMMON FOR THIS YEAR MAKE AND MODEL. FOR ME COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER ON A MOTORCYCLE ON ANY ROAD PRESENTS A SEVERE HAZARD. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THESE MOTORCYCLES ISSUED. THIS YEAR MODEL HAS A PLASTIC GEAR ON THE OIL PUMP WHICH WAS BEING REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BE KAWASAKI. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS NO LONGER THE CASE. *TR
