What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2012 Kia Sedona, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

There is a continuous leakage of oil from my van even after the dealer replaced valve cover gasket . When I complained they said it was the leftover oil. After a month again I complained . Then they re-checked and said it is my car's timing cover reseal leaking . Again after few days I had to complain as there was a leak. I got the same standard reply of leftover uncleaned oil is the cause. Few weeks later I took the van to them and they said they thoroughly cleaned and there won't be any leak. I sent them pictures of oil drops underneth the car like I did on earlier occassions. On August 11th this year they checked the car after my complaint and said there was no active leak. On 30th of this month I sent them the pictures of leaked oil spots which they are going to check on 18th September!. Since I got my first appointment on January 19 2025 I took the vehicle to the dealer 5-6 times. In between I complained to them about failure of door locks and wiper blades. They said they were fine and had no issues. A week ago passenger side door lock stopped working often . I took to a mechanic store run by AAA. Their response after few days was that the electrical system was failing due to bad alternator as the battery got depleted. They recommended me to the dealer again. I was searching google and realised that an oil leak can cause alternator to go bad leading to electric failure and even fire accidents. On [XXX] I noticed red flashing sign of alternator and some other (?) after 2 minutes drive from home. So I immediately turned back and went home and parked the van in the garage and waiting for September 18 for an inspection by the dealer. Last week drove to St Louis from Lexington, after the dealer confirmed there was no oil leak. In all their reports they mentioned vehicle is in good health! Each time when I sent a picture of a leak I requested managers at the receiving desk to park at a clean place and check the leak which they never did. WHEN THE ABS BRAKES ACTIVATE WHILE GOING AT A VERY SLOW SPEED DURING SNOWY OR RAINY WEATHER THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS AND THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS COME ON. I HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE CAR. IT'S VERY SCARY. The auto was diagnosed with a leaking ABS system which is an ongoing problem with this auto maker. The dealership stated there are currently no parts in the US to replace it. Not sure when they will be available. They want to charge me $2900 to buy the part not including labor costs. It seems this model is not currently under recall so I will have to pay. Told me not to drive the car or park it in the garage. They also refuse to give me a loaner car. I am sure this replacement part should be included with the other model recalls. They have a problem and want the consumer to pay. This is a safety issue with ALL their models.

KIA SEDONA RECALL ON HOOD LATCH AND FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS RELATED TO VIBRATION/STEERING. I EXPECT THE DEALER TO PICK UP, FIX AND RETURN THE VEHICLE. DEALER INDICATED THEY WOULD NOT. MY HAVING TO DELIVER AND PICK UP THE VEHICLE WOULD BE AN EXPENSE TO ME THROUGH NO FAULT OF MINE. RECALLS SHOULD COVER ALL EXPENSES INCLUDING PICK UP AND DELIVERY. MY DEALER IS 2 HOURS AWAY!

RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT ON THE THRUWAY,CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL AND BRAKING.
WE HAD A FLAT TIRE ON OUR 2012 KIA SEDONA. WHEN MY HUSBAND PUT THE VEHICLE ON THE JACK TO CHANGE THE TIRE, THE JACK CRUMPLED LIKE AN EMPTY SODA CAN. THIS WAS THE FIRST AND ONLY TIME THAT THIS FACTORY PROVIDED JACK HAD EVER BEEN USED. IF MY HUSBAND HAD BEEN UNDER THE VEHICLE RETRIEVING THE DONUT, HE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT, OR WORSE. WE WENT TO THE KIA SUSSMAN DEALERSHIP IN JENKINTOWN PA AND THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE THE JACK FOR ONE THAT WAS SAFE, SAID THAT THESE PIECES WERE NOT PART OF THE WARRANTY AND TO LEAVE AND TAKE THE JACK WITH US. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT ONE OF THESE DEFECTIVE JACKS WILL CRUMPLE ON SOMEONE ELSE WHILE THEY ARE UNDER THEIR VEHICLE AND BE HURT OR KILLED. *TR

SIDE VIEW MIRRORS WILL GO DOWN IN BACKUP POSITION WHILE DRIVING RESULTING IN A LOSS OF VISION ON CARS BESIDE AND BEHIND YOU. TRIED REPLACING WITH AFTERMARKET MIRRORS AND THE SAME HAPPENS. THIS IS THIRD TIME THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. ISSUE OCCURS ANYTIME VEHICLE IS STARTED. YOU CAN SET THE MIRRORS, TURN OFF THE SETTINGS ADJUSTER AND AT A RANDOM TIME THEY WILL GO ALL THE WAY DOWN.
ISSUE 1. VEHICLE APPEARS TO HAVE A BROKEN LOCK MECHANISM OR BAD SENSOR ON THE AUTOMATED REAR DRIVERS DOOR. WHEN SHUT AND IN DRIVE, DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 55 MPH, DOOR HAS FLOWN OPEN TWICE. I HAVE 2 CHILDREN THAT SIT IN THESE SEATS AND I WILL NOT PLACE THEM IN THE VEHICLE AGAIN UNTIL THIS SAFETY ISSUE IS RESOLVED. ISSUE 2 - FRONT WINDSHIELD REAR VIEW MIRROR HAS INTERMITTENTLY WENT IN AND OUT OF NIGHT MODE DURING DAYTIME DRIVING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND CARS ARE BARELY VISIBLE WITH THE GREEN TINTED NIGHTTIME MODE ON. ADDITIONALLY, RAIN MAKES THIS CONDITION WORSE.

ON JUNE 5, 2020 AND JUNE 14, 2020, RESPECTIVELY, TWO YOKOHAMA YK580 225/70R16 TIRES INSTALLED ON MY VEHICLE EXPERIENCED VIOLENT TREAD SEPARATION. THE TIRES WERE APPROXIMATELY 4 YEARS OLD WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES ON THEM (THE WARRANTY IS FOR 60,000 MILES). ONE EVENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH. BOTH TREAD SEPARATION EVENTS CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, THE REPAIR OF WHICH WAS ESTIMATED AT $3,195. MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE EVENTS PUT THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AT RISK. YOKOHAMA REFUSED TO ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY DUE TO THE TIRES BEING UNAVAILABLE FOR FORENSIC EXAMINATION. THIS WAS IN SPITE OF MY PROVIDING PHOTOGRAPHS OF BOTH EVENTS CLEARLY SHOWING TREAD SEPARATION HAD OCCURRED. I GUESS YOKOHAMA EXPECTED ME TO CARRY TWO DAMAGED TIRES BACK FROM THE VACATION (AND LEAVE MY FAMILY BEHIND TO NOT OVERLOAD THE VEHICLE?).
