The defect: Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp. (KME) is recalling certain 2001-2020 TDA tractor-drawn aerial firetrucks. The Anti-Lock Brake (ABS) control module on the ladder trailer may have incorrect wire connections.
The risk: Incorrect wiring can cause the trailer brakes to not operate properly when the ABS system is activated. This could lead to loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.
The remedy: KME will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the wiring and connections, and replace any incorrect hardware, free of charge. The recall began on April 9, 2021. Owners may contact KME customer service at 1-800-235-3928.

Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
