The defect: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AIR BAGS. A SUPPLEMENTARY RUBBER WINDSHIELD HEADER PROTECTOR TO BE INSTALLED BY THE VEHICLE OWNER ONTO THE WINDSHIELD HEADER WHEN DRIVING WITH THE VEHICLE'S TOP REMOVED WAS OMITTED.
The risk: INJURY TO UNBELTED OCCUPANTS COULD OCCUR IF THE VEHICLE'S TOP IS REMOVED AND THE VEHICLE IS INVOLVED IN A CRASH.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD HEADER RAIL TRIM PANEL AND PROVIDE THE OWNER WITH THE MISSING SUPPLEMENTAL RUBBER WINDSHIELD HEADER RAIL PROTECTOR.

The defect: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE AUTOMATIC WINDOW RETRACTOR SYSTEM, WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE DOOR(S) TO OPEN, WILL REMAIN IN THE CLOSED POSITION.
The risk: IF THIS OCCURS, THE VEHICLE OCCUPANT WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT (OR ENTER) THE VEHICLE IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH OR FIRE.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE WINDOW SYSTEM AND, IF NECESSARY, WILL REPLACE THE SYSTEM WITH THE NEW, MODIFIED VERSION OF THE MICRO SWITCH AND LATCH ASSEMBLY.

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Safety investigation
NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
