2007 Lexus IS 350 Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2007 Lexus IS 350, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 LEXUS IS 350. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WITHOUT WARNING. SEWELL LEXUS IN FORT WORTH, TEXAS REQUESTED THAT THE VEHICLE BE BROUGHT IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AS HAVING SQUIB CIRCUIT FAILURE INSIDE OF THE AIR BAG, WHICH CAUSED THE SRS INDICATOR TO ILLUMINATE UNDER CODE: B1861. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE SQUIB CIRCUIT FAILURE COULD POTENTIALLY DISABLE THE AIR BAGS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 141,896.

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

THIS IS THE FIRST BRAND NEW CAR I'VE EVER PURCHASED AND KEEP IT IN A GARAGE DURING THE DAY SINCE I HAVE TO DRIVE A WORK VEHICLE BETWEEN DAYTIME HOURS. THE GARAGE IS NOT AIR CONDITION BUT DOES NOT GET EXTREMELY HOT. THE SOFT RUBBER INTERIOR HAS DETERIORATED AND GOTTEN VERY STICKY AND BRITTLE. IT CAN BE RUBBED AWAY WITH A QUICK SWIPE OF YOUR FINGER. ITS AFFECTING MY DRIVER SIDE INTERIOR DOOR TRIM PANEL AT THE GRAB HANDLE. ITS CONSTANTLY FALLING APART AND GETTING GUMMY RESIDUE ON MY HANDS. THIS IS THE ONLY ISSUE WITH THIS CAR AND ITS NOT FAIR TO US CUSTOMERS BECAUSE THIS IS A VERY EVIDENT MANUFACTURER DEFECT. I NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE OR WAS INFORMED OF ANY ACTION THEY WOULD PROVIDE FOR THIS FLAW. *TR

IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN MY 2007 IS 350 HAS ABOUT 85,000 MILES. I CALLED AAA AND IT WAS PUT ON A FLATBED TOW AND DROPPED OFF AT A LEXUS DEALERSHIP. I'M WAITING TO HEAR WHAT THE CAUSE IS AND THE COST. THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE AND TACHOMETER NEEDLES ARE LED LIGHTS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ILLUMINATED. IN WARMER CLIMATES THERE IS A VERY HIGH RATE OF FAILURE WELL INSIDE OF THE 100,000 MARK. THE LED LIGHTED NEEDLE FAIL, HENCE YOU CAN NO LONGER NOTE YOUR SPEED. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON LINE AND 3 OR 4 VENDORS THAT SPECIALIZE IN THE REPAIR BECAUSE IT IS SO PREVALENT. NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE YOUR VEHICLE SPEED AT NIGHT IS CERTAINLY A SAFETY ISSUE.

LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS KEEP GOING OUT. I HAVE DIRECTIONAL HEADLIGHTS THAT WHEN I TURN MY VEHICLE ON, MY LIGHTS WILL TURN ON (IF DARK ENOUGH OUT) AND THEY MOVE POINTING DOWN AND THEN UP. WHILE DRIVING THEY ALSO DO THIS AND GO LEFT TO RIGHT. WELL WHEN I FIRST START MY CAR THEY BOTH WORK. AS SOON AS LOWBEAMS MOVE STRAIGHT TO DOWN AND THEN TO UP, ON UP MOVEMENT MY DRIVER SIDE CUTS OUT. DOES NOT TURN BACK ON. *TR

report

From owner reports, verbatim

THE COLD IDLE SPEED ON MY CAR IS BETWEEN 1000 AND 1500 RPMS. AT CERTAIN SPEEDS, THIS CAUSES THE CAR TO SLOWLY ACCELERATE WITH THE FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR. EVERY OTHER CAR I'VE DRIVEN WILL DECELERATE WITH THE FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR. THIS CAUSES ME TO RIDE THE BRAKE AT CITY SPEEDS TO MAINTAIN A SAFE SPEED, WITH THE BRAKE SIGNALS POTENTIALLY CONFUSING TO OTHER MOTORISTS. ADDITIONALLY, WHEN NAVIGATING SNOWY OR ICY PARKING LOTS & STREETS, HITTING A SLIPPERY PATCH UNDER THE HIGH COLD RPMS WILL CAUSE THE CAR TO TEMPORARILY BREAK FREE OF THE BREAKS, SPIN THE WHEELS, AND LURCH FORWARD. THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH WINTER TIRES. THIS IS NOT A SINGLE OCCURRENCE, BUT HAPPENS WHENEVER THE CAR IS DRIVEN WHILE COLD. *TR
