2023 Lincoln Corsair PHEV Problems
Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component
Data refreshed
What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2023 Lincoln Corsair PHEV, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.
Reports by component
Ranked by how many owner reports name each component category
- Driver assistance430.8%
- Electrical430.8%
- Powertrain (other)215.4%

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.
Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
Cruise control will not hold lock. Suddenly without warning and with no manual input the speed will surge to well over 80MPH and continues to accelerate until the cruise control is manually disengaged. Also sometimes it will go the other way dropping Suddenly to under 50 MPH after being running at 65MPH. This will happen without warning even on an empty highway with no other cars in front. I took the car to the dealer who told me other 2023 Corsairs have the same problem and they said they did a software update but the problem is still there and was not fixed.
While the cruise control was engaged on the highway without touching anything the with the speed set to 65mph the speed would suddenly increase to in excess of 75 mph before I could catch it and reset the speed back to 65mph. Also there would be times when the speed would decrease below 65mph by 10 to 20 mph and not reset to the 65mph speed. This was happening when the AutoGlide self driving feature was not engaged- just regular adpative cruse control.

Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
Due to a safety recall for possible battery fires, we have not been able to charge the PHEV for more than a year. This significantly affects the vehicle's mileage and performance and reduces the car's value. •We are unable to use the plug-in charging function for an extended period •We leased the vehicle specifically as a plug-in hybrid •The recall materially reduced the vehicle’s usefulness and fuel savings •We remain concerned about leasing another Corsair hybrid Furthermore: •We leased the vehicle specifically for plug-in capability •We paid a premium for the hybrid model •We were unable to use charging/EV mode for a prolonged period •Fuel costs increased because the vehicle functioned more like a regular gas SUV
The contact owns a 2023 Lincoln Corsair. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V954000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.

The contact owns a 2023 Lincoln Corsair. The contact received Technical Service Bulletin Number: 24L10 (Documentation in Owner’s Manual Incorrectly Stated that the Vehicle Could be Recreationally Flat Towed). The contact stated that the vehicle could not be recreationally flat towed with all wheels on the ground because damages to the powertrain might occur. The contact stated that he typically flat tow his vehicle behind his RV. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while driving 35 MPH, the message "Powertrain Failure" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the vehicle was repaired. The contact was informed that an update was performed on the vehicle. The contact wanted the vehicle to be inspected for transmission damage; however, the dealer refused to inspect the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and refused to inspect the vehicle. The contact was referred to the buyback program to find out if the vehicle could be bought back, and it was declined. The manufacturer was notified again of the issue and refused to extend the warranty on the vehicle. The contact submitted a proposal to the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 9,000.

Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
Missing Parts during assembly resulted in wire melting onto muffler which subsequently resulted in error messages relating to the parking brake and disabling of the Adaptive Cruise Control and BlueCruise while driving. The failure to install deflectors, a part that is just inside the wheel well to keep wires from touching the muffler, is an ongoing issue which is discussed in a Lincoln forum since April 2022. I have found comments relating to these missing deflectors on Fords since 2019. [XXX] The missing parts are mostly, but not all, associated with having a towing package installed. If the wire had melted all the way through then a catastrophic event might have happened. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.

- May 26, 2023: NHTSA Recall No.: 23V-380, recalled 2021-2023 Lincoln Corsair vehicles equipped with 2.5L HEV or PHEV engines (among others) due to possible engine failure and engine compartment fires after several reports of same, even after the repair attempted after NHTSA Recall No.: 22V-484 (the “Second Recall”). “This recall expands and replaces number 22V-484.” -June 5, 2023, Mr. Adrian Diaz of the Ford Motor Company (“Ford”) wrote a letter to NHTSA, addressing the subject of “Engine Failure May Cause Fire” and acknowledging the safety recall (the “Acknowledgement”). In the Acknowledgement, Ford stated that the consequence of the engine failure is that “[a]n engine compartment failure increases the risk of injury” but that there is no current remedy for this serious hazard. No remedy has become available since these issues first started arising prior to July 2022. -On June 8, 2023, after the recall and acknowledgement thereof, Crest Lincoln in Connecticut/Ford Motor Company sold me a vehicle that was the subject of the recall even though their own acknowledgement said “it is illegal for a manufacturer, to sell, offer for sale, import or introduce or deliver into interstate commerce, a motor vehicle or item of motor vehicle equipment that contains a safety defect once the manufacturer has notified NHTSA about that safety defect.” SUMMARY: Crest Lincoln and Ford Motor Company illegally sold me a vehicle and put an illegal vehicle into the stream of commerce that had a very serious safety related recall.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
