What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2017 Lincoln Mkc, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
Head gasket failure where engine coolant leaked internally into the engine cylinders.
For the last 17,000 miles, the engine light has been on. We got it checked out and there is coolant and cylinder three we change the cylinder thought it was a misfire, but the problem keeps occurring and we found out information that those engines are bad.
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
Contact owns a 2017 Lincoln MKC. The contact stated that reversing at an undisclosed speed, the rear cross traffic warning system of the vehicle was inoperable. The dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Lincoln MKC. The contact received a second notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V572000 (Back Over Prevention) stating that the part was currently available for the recall repair. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the contact that the rearview camera needed to be replaced; however, the part was not yet available and had been ordered. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and informed the contact that the part shipment was expedited; however, the dealer had not yet received the part. The contact had not experienced a failure.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
At approximately 64,000 miles my engine light came on and I took it to a shop. Cylinder 2 was misfiring so we changed the spark plugs and coils. At 67,000 miles light came on again with same issue and while having my oil changed they noted it was unusually dirty. I changed out plugs and coils again. At 72,000 miles light came on again and I took it to a different shop and learned I had a crack engine block, a problem with these vehicles with ECO boost. I was told I needed a new engine and the only thing I could do was add sealant to buy time. I took it to Lincoln to trade and they refused because of the issue and told me to reset the light and sell to Carmax. I couldn’t do that, it was wrong. I sold it for $1,000 to Nissan because I could no longer afford to be driving my grandson in this unsafe car. Also had a lot of issues with electrical starting from purchase with battery dying and lift gate not working. When I got rid of it the windshield wipers wouldn’t work and radio made aweful static sounds. Horrible car from day 1 purchased brand new.
Battery drain issues - causing faulty modules on driver side door which include the safety belts modules, rear lift gate as well as black panel screen. Poor engine performance and warning lights like the check engine light come on and off intermittently. I have replaced the battery several times and having various modules problems some have come up as air bags, and ABS brakes modules. Lincoln knows about the problems and so far, is not able to fix the problems that causes the battery to drain, which causes all the faulty modules. Really don't expect anything like a recall, but this is now documented to warned others. if the modules don't work properly, the sensors will not work correctly either in the vehicles. There are over 20+ modules in the MKC that work with the sensors. Thank you for at least reading.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.

The engine in my 2017 Lincoln MKC (2.0L EcoBoost) has a documented manufacturing defect where the cylinder block design allows coolant to leak into the combustion chambers. This has caused persistent, unexplained coolant loss and rough engine performance on cold starts since February 2025, matching the diagnostic criteria in Ford TSB 19-2346. The defective engine assembly is available for inspection. This condition creates a significant safety hazard, including sudden power loss (Limp Mode) in traffic and a risk of engine fire from cracked cylinder heads. While Ford provided a service program (21N12) for 1.5L engines, they have failed to issue a safety recall for the 2.0L variant despite identical failure modes. This vehicle is part of the class in the consolidated litigation Miller, et al. v. Ford Motor Company (Case No. 2:20-cv-01796). I am filing this to assist NHTSA in determining the necessity of a mandatory safety recall.
After a repair/service visit at a national auto repair chain, my 2017 Lincoln MKC developed ongoing severe drivability and safety issues. The check engine light began flashing (active misfire), and the vehicle was unsafe for highway travel due to risk of loss of power/engine damage. Independent shop documentation reports cylinder #4 misfire (P0304) and additional engine timing-related code(s), low oil condition, and notes indicating internal engine damage and that the engine may require replacement. The vehicle also had a vacuum/brake booster line issue that affected brake assist until corrected. The problem has been confirmed by independent service centers and the vehicle is available for inspection. There was a near crash, but no fire, injury, or police report occurred.
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
I am filing a formal safety complaint regarding my 2017 Lincoln MKC equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine (VIN: [XXX]). The vehicle has experienced a severe, progressive engine failure caused by internal coolant intrusion into Cylinder 1, directly matching the structural design defect detailed by the manufacturer in Technical Service Bulletin TSB 22-2229. This defect allows pressurized engine coolant to continuously leak directly into the combustion cylinders while driving and during engine rest. This creates an immediate safety risk of vehicle hydro-locking during ignition, sudden mid-drive engine stalls at highway speeds due to severe misfires (Fault Code P0301), and unexpected engine overheating. The manufacturer has knowingly built these open-deck engine blocks with narrow coolant grooves prone to fracturing, creating an ongoing risk of sudden thermal failure and power loss in active traffic. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Related to previous recall [XXX] I had the recall repair done. But my car with only 86,744 miles now has coolant in cylinder 3 and it's misfiring so badly the car shouldn't/can't be driven. Dealership says the entire engine needs to be replaced. I have NEVER had a car this low of mileage that an entire engine needed replacement. This is a design flaw in the 2.0 ecoboost and I now have a probably $20,000 or whatever it may have been worth when it ran... Paperweight. It's just sputtering and spitting out loads of smoke as described in original TSB. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
I RECENTLY LEASED A FORD MKC. IT CAME EQUIPPED WITH SIDE VIEW MIRRORS THAT WOULD AUTOMATICALLY FOLD IN WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS CLOSE ENOUGH TO AN OBJECT WHERE YOU COULD GET CLOSER FOR CONVIENENCE. A GOOD EXAMPLE IS WHEN YOU GO THROUGH A CAR WASH AND THE SIDE MIRRORS FORD IN SO THEY DO OT GET DAMAGED DURING THE CAR WASH. IF A PERSON FORGETS TO PRESS THE BOTTON TO HAVE THE MIRRORS SWING BACK OUT SO A PERSON CAN DRIVE SAFELY THAT DOES NOT OCCUR AUTOMATICALLY. IN ESSENSE THOSE MIRRORS ARE CLOSED AND I COULD BE DOING 55 AND NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE SIDE MIRRORS IF I FORGOT. I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY OPEN BACK UP WHEN THE VEHICLE GETS TO A SPECIFIC SPEED LIKE 20-25 MILES AN HOUR. I HAD A BMW THAT HAD THE SAME O[PTIOON ONLY WHEN IT GOT TO 20 MILES AN HOUR IT AUTOMATICALLY PUT THE SIDEVIEW MIRRORS WHERE THEY NEEDED TO GO. BIG SAFETY ISSUE
THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON THE LINCOLN MKC MALFUNCTION IN THE RAIN. I EXPERIENCED SEVERAL INSTANCES WHERE, UNDER FLOOD ADVISORY CONDITIONS, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS DID NOT WORK. I TURNED THE CAR ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES. I CHANGE THE WIPER AUTOMATION SETTINGS SEVERAL TIMES AND STILL THE WIPERS WOULD NOT WORK. I BELIEVE THIS IS A VERY HAZARDOUS ISSUE FOR ANYONE DRIVING A 2017 LINCOLN MKC AND DO NOT BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE TAKEN LIGHTLY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WHEN LIVES ARE AT HAND. IN THE ABOVE SET INSTANCE I WAS DRIVING DURING THE DAY WITH RAIN SLEET AND SNOW UNDER FLOOD ADVISORY CONDITIONS.

First incident: My daughter was in the vehicle in our driveway in March 2022 and was leaving. She came running inside and told me she hit the start button and that the vehicle did not start, but started to roll down the driveway with the steering wheel locked in position. She was stepping on the brakes and the vehicle continued to roll out into the street until it finally stopped when it hit the curb across the street. She stated the brakes did not work. She hit the start button again and the vehicle started and she drove it back into our driveway to tell me about the incident and the loss of brakes and steering. Second incident: 5/9/22, my daughter was parked at the gas station with 2 friends. After putting gas in the car, she hit the start button and the car did not start, but instead started rolling forward with the steering wheel locked and no brakes. She kept pumping the brakes and nothing would stop the car. She started hitting buttons on the dashboard in an attempt to get the vehicle to stop, but it ran into the yellow bollard at the gas station and scraped the entire passenger side of the vehicle. She pressed the start button and held it down for several seconds before that made the vehicle finally stop. Her two friends corroborated that the vehicle would not stop even though she was frantically pressing the brakes. We now have approximately $4,000 worth of damage down the passenger side of the vehicle. My daughter is afraid to drive the vehicle anymore as this is the second time the vehicle failed to start, started moving, the steering wheel was locked, and the BRAKES did not work to stop the vehicle.

Lug nuts need to be replaced due to swelling
I had my MKC at the dealership to get an oil change and check for an issue with electrical. They were checking the car and they had to replace all 20 lugnuts because they swelled. I think it's absolutely ridiculous that even the dealers say they have problems with those lug nuts and ford/Lincoln refuses to pay for it! I called who refused to pay for them

The contact owned a 2017 Lincoln MKC. The contact stated that while driving at 10 MPH, when attempting to park the vehicle on a residential street, the vehicle heisted, and the vehicle independently accelerated into her cousin's house. The contact mentioned she depressed the brake pedal to stop; however, the vehicle did not respond as intended. No air bags deployed. The contact was able to drive the vehicle from the scene. No medical attention was required. The insurance company deemed the vehicle a total loss. The contact stated that a police report was filed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
None of my airbags deployed in a one vehicle accident when my tire blew. I woke up sitiing in a guard rail.and injured. This happened on September 4th, 2025. Car totaled and Travelers Insurance already paid off finance company and I was left with nothing. I have trouble walking g, a brokthumb. Constant headaches and chest soreness.

Defective seat warmer burned a hole through the driver seat and my jacket. Spoke with Lincoln dealership and customer service, both refuse to cover cost because car is no longer under warranty. I asked if they would cover the cost if I took my vehicle into the dealership to get inspected and they still refuse. If I wasn’t wearing a jacket, I could’ve suffered from burns or my seat catching fire.
WHEN ADULTS ARE IN THE BACK SEAT AND THEY TRY TO GET OUT WHEN THE CAR STOPS, THEIR FEET ARE TRAPPED UNDER THE BACK OF THE FRONT SEAT. THE FRONT SEATS MUST BE MOVED FORWARD TO ALLOW THEM TO REMOVE THEIR FEET.

I WAS PULLING AWAY FROM MY HOUSE AFTER BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, AND THE POWER STEERING PRACTICALLY FROZE. I ALMOST HIT MY OTHER CAR THAT WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. THREE WARNINGS CAME UP ON THE DASH: 1. SERVICE ADVANCETRAC, 2. STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED, 3. HILL START ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY LOCAL SERVICE STATION AND HE DIAGNOSED THAT IT WAS THE "ELECTRONICS" IN MY RACK AND PINION. HE ADVISED THAT I TAKE IT TO FORD/LINCOLN, BECAUSE IT MAY, OR SHOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY. I THEN TOWED MY CAR TO THE CLOSEST FORD DEALER THAT I WAS ABLE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH, BECAUSE ALL THE DEALERS IN QUEENS, NY ARE BACKED UP, 4-6 WEEKS. I RECEIVED AN IMMEDIATE RESPONSE: "WE FOUND THE PROBLEM. INTERNAL FAILURE WITH THE ELECTRONIC RACK AND PINION. THAT'S WHY IT IS CAUSING ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS WHILE DRIVING AND HARD STEERING. THE RACK CAN'T COMMUNICATE WITH THE VEHICLE. PARTS AND LABOR WITH AN ALIGNMENT AND DIAGNOSTIC IS $2,106 PLUS TAX. IT'S ELECTRONIC. CAN'T CONTROL AND DON'T KNOW WHAT CAUSES IT TO GO BAD. IT IS ONLY COVERED UNDER THE BASIC 3YR./36K MILE WARRANTY. IT'S AN INTERNAL ISSUE WITH THE RACK. IT'S ALL COMPLETE WITH NEW RACK AND ELECTRONIC UNIT BUILT INTO IT. I KNOW IT'S EXPENSIVE. IT'S THE SAME SET UP AS THE FORD EXPLORER. JUST DID ONE THE OTHER DAY. THE PART ALONE IS $1296.00 AND IT TAKES 2 DAYS TO GET. THEY (FORD) KNOW OF IT BUT NO RECALL. PART INCLUDES 1YR./12K WARRANTY PARTS AND LABOR." I AM GETTING THE CAR REPAIRED. I WAS TOLD IT SHOULD BE READY BY TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2020.

CAR WAS IN DRIVEWAY. AUTO STOP FEATURE WAS ON. FOOT WAS ON BRAKE, ENGINE STOPPED IDLING. AS I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND THE A/C COMPRESSOR ENGAGED AT THE SAME TIME. THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD AND HIT A BRICK COLUMN CAUSING OVER $2000 IN DAMAGE.CAR WAS SERVICED AT DEALER FOR THIS PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THE CAR DID NOT "THROW ANY CODES". PROBLEM COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. NOTHING WAS DONE TO THE CAR BY THE DEALER FOR THIS PROBLEM.
