2007 Lincoln Town Car Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2007 Lincoln Town Car, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Unintended/Unexpected acceleration, even while brake pedal is pressed. Happens intermittently. Most scary time for me happened in Publix parking lot at crosswalk for pedestrians. I thought I was going to hit the pedestrians. There are two drivers for this car and has happened to both of us. Just now, [XXX] around [XXX] it happened again when the other driver was driving out of Subway parking lot near St. Johns river into right lane of 3 lanes of traffic near an intersection with a car tuning left right in front of us. Very scary and glad no collision. No, to dealer or independent service dealer question. No, to the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others question No, to the warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem question INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

This safety issue was discovered yesterday. The passenger-side rear door will not unlock, either by manual attempt to raise the knob or by using the control buttons on the FOB nor at the driver's station. The window in that door also no longer responds to attempts to raise or lower it. Both my rear seat passengers had to enter using the driver's-side rear door. This creates a serious potential safety hazard by preventing rear-seat passengers exiting the vehicle near their closest door in an emergency. The car will be taken to a local dealership to resolve this safety and convenience issue upon my return from an extended trip. I had no warning of any impending component failure. That door lock and window worked well days ago.

My 07 Lincoln only has around 80,000 miles on it and has water leaks causing water to pool in the floor boards thereby causing the potential for rust, electrical issues and the hazards that could result therefrom. A quick online search will reveal to you that these leaks are incredibly common and very well known among Lincoln owners and dealers alike (very, very common problem due to manufacturer defects) but Ford refuses to do anything about it. Given how widespread this problem is it seems that the right thing to do would be for Ford to issue a recall and repair these things. Problem appears to affect 99'-11 models. Thank You

THE 'THE LINCOLN MOTOR COMPANY ' IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL' IS JUST ANOTHER FORD LIE. IT STATES 'THERE IS NO CHARGE TO VEHICLE OWNERS FOR RECALL REPAIRS PERFORMED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER.' FORD HAS CLOSED ALL OF THE LINCOLN DEALERSHIPS IN THE IMMEDIATE SAN FRANCISCO AREA. THE NEAREST LINCOLN DEALERSHIPS ARE AN HOUR AWAY DURING OFF-PEAK TRAFFIC HOURS. FORGET IT DURING PEAK TRAFFIC HOURS. WHEN YOU GET TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY HAVE NO LOANER VEHICLE. THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE A RENTAL ON-SITE. YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOUR OWN ARRANGEMENTS SOMEPLACE ACROSS TOWN. MY EXPERIENCE IS THAT IT TOOK FOUR RETURNS TO A DEALERSHIP, EACH FOR A FULL DAY, TO GET ONE RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY UNDER RECALL FOR: GAS TANK PROBLEMS, STEERING COLUMN PROBLEMS, AND I UNDERSTAND AIR BAGS. THAT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT HAS NEVER WORKED, THAT LINCOLN WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR WHEN THE DEALERSHIPS WERE IN THE BAY AREA. WRITING TO THE LINCOLN MOTOR COMPANY, CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER IS PROBABLY AS BIG A WASTE OF TIME AS WRITING THIS LETTER. *JS

I PURCHASED A 2007 LINCOLN TOWN CAR IN SEPT. OF 2009,28800 NOW WITH 33850 MILES. DURING THIS WINTER I REPORTED TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY OF MY PROBLEM WITH THE CHROME PEELING FROM ALL 4 WHEELS..I WAS TOLD THIS IS NOT COVERED...AS THE TIME HAS GONE ON THE WHEELS HAVE DETERIORATED AND THE TIES DO NOT HOLD AIR..I BROUGHT IT TO THE FORD DEALER AND HAD TO PAY 180.00 TO FIX 2 WHEELS THAT WOULD GO FLAT AS I WAS DRIVING..THIS WAS DONE BY APPLYING SOME TYPE OF RUBBER CEMENT TO THE INSIDE OF THE WHEELS..NOW I FIND THE CORROSION IS SO BAD A 6" PIECE OF CHROME HAS PEELED OFF AND THE PLACE WHERE THE VALVE STEMS INSERT INTO THE WHEELS HAVE CORRODED BOTH INSIDE THE TIRE AND THE OUT SIDE..I WAS TOLD BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY THAT "THIS IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM " HOW DOES THE ENVIRONMENT CAUSE THIS ON THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL. I FIND THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE. IF II AM DRIVING AND THE TIRES LOSES AIR PRESSURE I WOULD LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AND THE SERVICE WRITER WHO TOLD ME "WE BOTH WORKED AT A LINCOLN DEALERSHIP BEFORE AND YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE HOW MANY OF THOSE CAME BACK LIKE THAT,THEY WOULD REPLACE THEM BUT THEY STOPPED DOING IT" I LIVE IN MASSACHUSETTS AND WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE WHEELS HAVE TO BE DETAILED..HOW DO YOU DETAIL WHEELS IN 17 DEGREE WEATHER IN JANUARY. I NOW HAVE A CAR THAT I DO NOT TRUST DRIVING DUE TO THIS AND HAVE NOT BEEN HELPED IN THE LEAST BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY. AND IF THIS IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM WITH THE SALT ON THE ROADS WHY WAS I SOLD THIS CAR IN THIS AREA OF THE COUNTRY..GOD FORBID I ENTER A CONSTRUCTION SITE AND I LOSE CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE..AS WE HAVE JUST HAD 6 SP OFFICERS HIT ON THE ROADWAYS AND MASS. NOW HAS THE MOVE OVER LAW ENACTED...I CANNOT CONTROL THE ENVIRONMENT AND THIS PRODUCT IS INFERIOR AND DEFECTIVE..THE 2010 TOWNCAR USES STEEL WHEELS WITH PLASTIC CHROME INSERTS INSTEAD OF THE ALUMINUM ALLY CHROME PLATED WHEELS. *TR

MY CAR HAD 94,106 MILES THEN THE REPAIR WAS MADE. THE FRONT END WAS HANDLING POORLY AND I KNEW THE COIL OVER STRUT ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED REPLACING. WHEN MY MECHANIC PERFORMED THE WORK THEY CALLED AND ASKED ME IF I TRIED TO WORK ON THE FRONT SUSPENSION OF MY CAR AND I TOLD THEM 'NO', AS I HAVE NO TOOLS OR EXPERIENCE TO DO SUCH WORK. I ASKED WHY THEY WANTED TO KNOW AND THE MECHANIC INFORMED THAT MY UPPER BALL JOINTS WERE FRACTURED AND CROSS THREADED. I WANTED TO KNOW HOW IT COULD HAPPEN AND THEY COULD NOT GIVE ME ANSWER (THEY SPECULATE THIS WAS A FACTORY ASSEMBLY MISTAKE) AS THE COIL OVER STRUT SHOULD NOT BE CROSS THREADED, THAT IS WHY THEY WANTED TO KNOW IF I DID SOMETHING TO THE CAR. LINCOLN TOWN CARS WITH THE COIL OVER STRUT FRONT SUSPENSION ARE BAD FOR FALLING APART AND THIS APPLIES TO THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS. I HAVE SEVERAL FRIENDS WITH THIS SAME CAR AND THEY HAVE REPORTED FRACTURED UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE DUE POOR DESIGN OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION. I FEEL A RECALL NEEDS TO HAPPEN AS YOU CAN BE DRIVING YOUR CAR AND THE FRONT END WILL FALL OUT. I AM FORTUNATE AS I HAD ENOUGH SENSE TO KNOW MY CAR WAS NOT HANDLING PROPERLY AND IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE, A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE NOT BEEN AS FORTUNATE. I AM ATTACHING THE REPAIR BILL TO THIS FILE BUT MY PERSONNEL INFORMATION IS HIDDEN. I AM MAINTAINING THE REPAIR INVOICE IN MY PERSONNEL CAR FILE IF YOU SHOULD NEED IT. A RECALL NEEDS TO BE DONE AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD RE-DESIGN THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY TO HANDLE THE HEAVY WEIGHT OF THESE CARS AND REIMBURSE OWNERS FOR REPAIRS ALREADY MADE. I DO NOT TEAR UP MY CAR AND THIS ISSUE SHOULD NOT HAVE EVER HAPPENED.
