The defect: Marion Body Works Inc. (Marion) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Pumper, Rescue, Aerial, and RPM vehicles equipped with Weldon 8X16 Input-Output nodes. In the event of a short circuit or wiring failure, the firmware in the node may fail to shut off the output pin, resulting in overloaded electrical circuits.
The risk: Overloaded electrical circuits can overheat, increasing the risk of fire.
The remedy: Maron will work with the equipment manufacturer Weldon to update the firmware, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 26, 2024. Owners may contact Marion Body Works customer service at 1-715-754-5261.

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
