The contact owns a 2005 Mazda B-Series ZJ57. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 17V806000, 17V807000, and 23V837000 (Air Bags) however, the dealer had refused to complete the recall due to the air bags that had inflated during a crash. The contact stated that the manufacturer refused to honor the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had experienced a failure. The contact stated while driving at approximately 20 MPH and as he was turning to the left, he did not observe that another vehicle was crossing his path. The contact stated that his front driver's side bumper, headlight, and grill crashed into the front passenger door of the vehicle. The contact stated that the driver's side and passenger front air bags deployed. The contact stated that the driver's side air bag inflator exploded and that he was cut on his right cheek by metal fragments. The contact stated that the largest part of the air bag inflator had torn a hole in the roof and was lodged in the padding. The contact stated that he was able to remove the piece of metal. He drove himself to the hospital where he was treated for a minor cut on his right cheek. The contact stated that both vehicles were able to move under power and were not towed. The contact stated that he later reported the crash to the police, the contact stated that no report was written. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA B-SERIES TRUCK. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 17V806000 AND 17V807000 (AIR BAGS). THE CONTACT STATED THAT FOOTHILLS MAZDA (LOCATED AT 202 E NORTH FOOTHILLS DR, SPOKANE, WA 99207, (509) 324-8200) EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
