The defect: MEDTEC AMBULANCE IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007-2009 AD-170, FD-160 AND PD-168 AMBULANCES EQUIPPED WITH CARRIER AIRV CEILING UNITS, MODEL NOS. 68RV0010BA, 68RV0012CA, AND 68RV0010EA. THE HEATER ELEMENT IN THESE ASSEMBLIES MAY BE DEFECTIVE WHICH COULD CAUSE THE UNIT TO CREATE SMOKE OR SPARKS.
The risk: THIS DEFECT COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
The remedy: MEDTEC AMBULANCE WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND THE AMBULANCES WILL BE REPAIRED BY CARRIER FREE OF CHARGE. PLEASE SEE CARRIER'S DEFECT REPORT 09E-053. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 19, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CARRIER AT 1-877-584-7059 OR MEDTEC AMBULANCE AT 1-574-534-1318.

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
