What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2000 Mercedes-Benz Cl Class, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

ON 11/25/03, MY WIFE AND I WERE DROVE OUR 2000 CL 500 MERCEDES TO OUR LOCAL POST OFFICE TO MAIL A LETTER. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND I WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. SHE PUT THE CAR IN PARK . RIGHT AFTER PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK WE HEARD A SOUND THAT SOUNDED LIKE A TIRE BLOWING OUT. I GOT OUT AND IMMEDIATLEY NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD. THE CAR BEHIND US BEEPED HIS HORN AND YELLED YOUR CAR IS ON FIRE. I QUICKLY PULLED MY 7 MONTH PREGNANT WIFE FROM THE CAR AS WE WACHED OUR CAR BURN TO THE GROUND IN LESS THEN 20 MINUTES. WHEN I NOTIFIED MERCEDES TO LET THEM KNOW THAT MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE IS POSSIBLE DANGEROUS FLAW IN THIS VEHICLE, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT THIER PROBLEM AND THAT THIS KIND OF THING IS NOT COVERED. I WAS FLOORED WHEN I HEARD THIS. WHAT CAN I DO? *AK
Too few reports in this category for a page of its own — they appear in the full complaint list.
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
