2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB 250 Electrical Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the electrical system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Electrical reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

My car has a recall from May 2021, I purchased my car Oct 2022. When asked about the recall the finance manger at Mercedes Benz of South San Francisco, Rapheal Chin stated it was no open recalls on the car. When I pointed out the repair order didn’t match the car fax, it was explained by the salesman that it was completed. But NHTSA says that it was not fixed. When trying to get it fixed my car sat at the dealership for 8 days with no understanding of how to fix my car. This is clear neglect on the manufacturer and is causing me grief! My car says no updates needed, my Mercedes Benz Me App, says no updates needed but yet this recall is still open over a year later. I’ve called customer care 12 times in one day with no help. It seems as though no one throughout the Mercedes Benz company can assist me.

I EXPERIENCED AN INCIDENT WITH MY RECENTLY PURCHASED GLB 250 THAT MIRRORS EXACTLY THE 20200070009 RECALL THAT DOES NOT COVER MY VIN. AFTER RUNNING THE VEHICLE THROUGH A CAR WASH, THE DASHBOARD INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WENT BLANK, WITH NO ABILITY TO DETERMINE SPEED, FUEL LEVELS, ETC. WATER AFFECTED THE PROPER COMPONENT OPERATION FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, BUT DID EVENTUALLY RETURN.

ON 3/23/2021, MY GLB 250 STARTED EXPERIENCING ELECTRICAL AND ENGINE ISSUES AFTER I HAD BEEN STOPPED AT A RAILROAD CROSSING FOR 15 MINUTES WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND THE CAR IN PARK. ONCE THE TRAIN PASSED AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE, MY INSTRUMENT PANEL STARTED LIGHTING UP WITH EVERY POSSIBLE WARNING LIGHT AND ADDITIONAL WARNINGS THAT SAID TO NOT SHIFT GEARS AND GO TO DEALER IMMEDIATELY. I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE AND STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT, AT WHICH TIME ALL WARNINGS CONTINUED TO GO OFF. I COULD NOT TURN THE CAR ON OR OFF, COULD NOT SHIFT INTO ANY GEAR, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL KEPT FLASHING AND SEEMED LIKE THE CAR WAS TRYING TO REBOOT. AS I WAS ON THE LINE WITH MERCEDES ME TO GET A TOW TRUCK, THE CAR WAS FINALLY ABLE TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT. THE CAR SEEMED TO BE OPERATING FINE BUT THE YELLOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. ON MY 10 MILE DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP THE CAR STARTED EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE EVERY TIME I HAD TO STOP AT A STOP LIGHT. ONCE AT THE DEALERSHIP THE CAR CONTINUED TO THROW ERROR MESSAGES ON THE DASH.

ON FRIDAY 7/17/2020 AROUNDNOON, I WASDRIVING MYMB GLB THAT WAS BOUGHT LESSTHAN90 DAYS AGO WHEN SUDDENLY THE DASHBOARD WENT BLANK. I COULD NOT SEE SPEED, GAS GAGES OR ANY OTHER SAFETY FEATURES THAT WOULD BE ON THE DASH. I WAS BASICALLY BLINDED. I CALLED MERCEDES 911 AFTER STOPPING THE CAR. WE TRIED TO FACTORY RESET THE COMPUTER ON ADVICE FROM TECH VIA THE PHONE. THIS HAD NO IMPACT ON THE SCREEN. THE MB REP DID NOT OFFER ROADSIDE ASSIST. I HAD TO DRIVE OVER 25 MILES WITH NO DASHBOARD TO GAGE MY SPEED, GAS OR SAFETY LIGHTS. I HAD NO CHOICE AS NO HELP WAS COMING TO GET ME. THIS DEFECT MAKES THIS CAR EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED PRIOR TO PURCHASE.NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 20V246000 RECALL DATE: 2020-05-01SUMMARYMERCEDES-BENZ USA, LLC.
