1991 Mercury Capri Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1991 Mercury Capri, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

DRIVING, THEN COMING TO A STOP OR SLOWING DOWN, WHEN SUDDENLY THE ENGINE STOPS RUNNING, AND WILL NOT RE-START. AT FIRST IT RESTARTED AFTER ABOUT 4 HOURS. NEXT WHEN IT HAD HAPPENED IT DID NOT RESTART UNTIL OVERNIGHT REST. THE IT STARTED RIGHT UP AND RAN FOR SEVERAL DAYS WHEN THE SAME THING HAD HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS STARTED THE SUMMER OF 2007, ABOUT A MONTH AFTER THE FOUR YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM THE RESELLING DEALER EXPIRED. CHANGED OUT THE "IGNITION CONTROL MODULE," NAPA REPLACEMENT PART #TP175. BUT AFTER A COUPLE WEEKS THE SAME PROBLEM STARTED TO HAPPEN AGAIN. ENGINE WILL NOT SHUT OFF WHILE IDLING FOR HOURS AT A TIME. ONLY WHEN DRIVEN AND COME TO A STOP, ALWAYS RESTARTS HOURS LATER! *TR
