The defect: METAL FABRICATION HAS NOTIFIED NHTSA OF A DEFECT IN CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010 BOAT TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH BRAKE SYSTEMS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN AUGUST 11, 2009 AND JANUARY 26, 2010 DESIGNED TO HAUL RECREATIONAL BOATS. THE BRAKE ACTUATOR ON THE TONGUE OF THE TRAILER CAN HAVE A MISALIGNED BRAKE SOLENOID. IF THE SOLENOID IS MIS-ALIGNED, THEN THERE IS POTENTIAL FOR INTERFERENCE BETWEEN THE SOLENOID AND THE ACTUATOR HOUSING.
The risk: LEAKAGE OF BRAKE FLUID AND/OR THE PRESENCE OF AIR IN BRAKE LINES MAY CAUSE THE BRAKES TO NOT OPERATE AS INTENDED INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND TEST THE BRAKE SYSTEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 3, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT METAL FABRICATION CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 931-962-0025.

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Safety investigation
NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
