What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2001 Mitsubishi Fuso FE649, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
CHASSIS / FRAME IS TOTALLY DETERIORATED FROM RUST WHICH DEVELOPED FROM WITHIN THE STEEL. NOT SURFACE RUST. BASICALLY IT HAS ROTTED AWAY MAKING THE TRUCK UNABLE TO CARRY A LOAD AND UNSAFE. THIS IS A 10 YEAR OLD HEAVY DUTY TRUCK THAT YOU CAN NOT DRIVE . YOU CAN DRIVE A HAMMER RIGHT THROUGH THE SUPERSTRUCTURE STEEL. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN FLEET MAINTAINED, UNDERCOATED. THE CHASSIS IS POWER WASHED REGULARLY AND PAINTED ANNUALLY. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER WITH ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE. BEING A TRUCK / FLEET OWNER FOR OVER 40 YEARS, THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN PULLED FROM SERVICE PREMATURELY BY AT LEAST 5-10 YEARS. *JS

CHASSIS / FRAME IS TOTALLY DESTROYED / DETERIORATED FROM ROT / RUST. YOU CAN LITERALLY PULL THE STEEL APART WITH YOUR BARE HANDS. THIS IS NOT SURFACE RUST! THIS TRUCK IS UNSAFE TO BE ON THE ROAD. THIS IS NOT AN EXPECTED PROBLEM FOR TRUCK OF THIS AGE AND GONE UNDETECTED COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURY TO PEOPLE. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER WITH NO RESPONSE. *JS
