2007 Mitsubishi Fuso FG84D Recalls

Safety recall campaigns filed with NHTSA that cover this model year

Data refreshed

Recalls apply to specific vehicles, not to every vehicle of a model year. Check your VIN with NHTSA or your manufacturer's dealer to confirm whether a recall affects your vehicle.

Recall campaignsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS

Nov 23, 2012
13,644 units potentially affected
The defect: Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America (MFTA) is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 FE83D, FE84D, FE85D, and FG84D trucks; manufactured from May 27, 2004, through May 14, 2007. The fuel pipes may crack due to an improper manufacturing process. Additionally, the fuel pipe flare nuts may have been insufficiently tightened.
The risk: Cracked fuel pipes or loose fuel pipe flare nuts may leak fuel. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a vehicle fire.
The remedy: MFTA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the fuel pipes and tighten or replace them as needed, free of charge. The safety recall began on January 21, 2013. Owners may contact MFTA at 1-856-467-4500.

EQUIPMENT

Nov 19, 2009
16,384 units potentially affected
The defect: MITSUBISHI FUSO IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005 THROUGH 2010 FE83D, FE84D, FE85D AND FG84D VEHICLES. THE WEATHER RESISTANCE PROPERTIES OF THE AIR INTAKE DUCT RUBBER CUSHIONS IS INSUFFICIENT. DURING NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION, THE RUBBER CUSHIONS DETERIORATE AND CRACK, CAUSING ABNORMAL NOISE.
The risk: ALL OF THE RUBBER CUSHIONS COULD CRACK, ALLOWING THE AIR INTAKE DUCT TO FALL OFF OF THE TRUCK INCREASING THE RISK OF CRASH.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE ALL OF THE AIR INTAKE DUCT RUBBER CUSHIONS WITH COMPONENTS MANUFACTURED TO PROPER SPECIFICATIONS. THIS REMEDY WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 19, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MITSUBISHI FUSO AT 1-856-467-4500.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:SUPPLY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS

Dec 20, 2006
5,466 units potentially affected
The defect: ON CERTAIN TRUCKS, THE BRAKE VACUUM HOSE MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH INSUFFICIENT WALL THICKNESS, ALLOWING THE HOSE TO COLLAPSE DURING NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION.
The risk: CONTINUED OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE IN THIS CONDITION COULD RESTRICT PROPER OPERATION OF THE BRAKE POWER-ASSIST AND COMPROMISE BRAKING PERFORMANCE; OR RESTRICT PROPER OPERATION OF THE EXHAUST BRAKE SYSTEM. EITHER OCCURRENCE COULD LEAD TO COMPROMISED BRAKING PERFORMANCE AND INCREASED BRAKING DISTANCE, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE BRAKE VACUUM HOSE AND WILL REPLACE THE HOSE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 21, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MITSUBISHI FUSO AT 877-711-0707.

What a recall is

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
Safety investigation
NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Safety investigations

NHTSA inquiries naming this vehicle. An investigation is not a finding of a defect, and it is not a recall.

BRAKE VACUUM BOOSTER HOSE COLLAPSES

Opened Sep 18, 2006
Closed Jan 5, 2007

THIS INVESTIGATION WAS OPENED BASED ON ODI'S RECEIPT OFEWR INFORMATION PERTAINING TO COLLAPSING BRAKE VACUUM HOSES ON THE SUBJECT VEHICLES.THE VEHICLES OF CONCERN ARE MEDIUM DUTY TRUCKS, MODEL YEARS 2006 - 2007,MODELS FE84D, FE85D AND FG84D.ODI MET WITH MITSUBISHI OFFICIALS AND DROVE A TRUCK WITH THE COLLAPSED HOSE.IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VACUUM BRAKE BOOSTER HOSE CAN FLATTEN OR COLLAPSE WHILE THE TRUCK IS BEING DRIVEN, RESULTING INDEGRADATION (REDUCED VACUUM) OF THE BRAKE POWER-ASSIST SYSTEM. THE REDUCTION IN AVAILABLE ENGINE VACUUM TO THE BRAKE BOOSTER REQUIRES THE DRIVER TO APPLY INCREASED BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE TO ACHIEVE THE EXPECTED STOPPING DISTANCE. DURING THE INVESTIGATION, ODI LEARNED THAT THE BRAKE VACUUM HOSE WAS MANUFACTURED WITH INSUFFICIENT WALL THICKNESS, ALLOWING THE HOSE TO COLLAPSE DURING NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION. DURING THE RECALL MITSUBISHI WILL REPLACE ALL VACUUM BRAKE BOOSTER HOSES ON THE APPLICABLE TRUCKS.THIS INVESTIGATION IS CLOSED.
