What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

DECEMEBR 23, 2018 I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON A FREEWAY, WHERE ALL THE TRAFFIC SUDDENLY CAME TO A STOP FROM 50 MPH. AS I PRESSED MY BREAKS IT WAS AS THOUGH THEY ALMOST DIDN'T WORK CAUSING ME TO STRIKE THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. THE ABS LIGHT THEN BECAME LIT, ALL AIR BAGS WERE DEPLOYED AND THE CAR WAS DETERMINED TOTALED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND I WAS NOT AT FAULT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HEARD AN ABNORMAL CRUNCHING NOISE. IN ADDITION, THE ABS WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH AND GOING DOWN HILL WITH ACCELERATION, THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO RESPOND. AS A RESULT, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE BASE. THE IMPACT CAUSED THE REAR OF THE DRIVER SEAT TO DETACH THE OVER HEAD LIGHT AND THE CONSOLE FRACTURED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BRUISES TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF HER BODY HEAD, BACK SHOULDER, HIP AND KNEES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V337000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND STATED THAT THE PART NEEDED FOR THE REPAIR WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
THE LEATHER ON THE DASHBOARD IS LIFTING WHICH WILL CAUSE A PROBLEM IF THE AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED. IT WILL NOT FIT BACK INTO THE LIP OF THE DASHBOARD WHICH STICKS UP AND IS GOING TO CAUSE A PROBLEM WHEN THE AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED I HAVE ASKED MITSUBISHI TO FIX IT AS IT SHOULD BE A RECALL AND THEY REFUSED. *JS

THE LADY CROSSED TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC AND RAN A RED LIGHT AND HIT MY CAR ON DRIVERS SIDE FRONT INCLUDING THE DOOR. DOOR WON'T OPEN AND AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. THE CAR WAS TOWED CAUSE IT COULDN'T START AND WASN'T DRIVABLE. SEAT BELTS DIDN'T LOCK SO THE PEOPLE IN MY CAR HIT STEERING, DASHBOARD AND BACK OF THE SEATS. MY CAR WAS HIT IN THE FRONT IN DEC. 5, 2013 AND SAME THING HAPPENED. AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY AND SEATBELTS DIDN'T LOCK. FROM THE ACCIDENT BEFORE I MADE A COMPLAINT WITH MITSUBISHI AND THEY DONE NOTHING. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME. *TR
