The defect: Morbark, Inc. (Morbark) is recalling certain model year 2008-2016 Beever wood chippers, models M15R, M15RX, M18R, M18RX and M20R, manufactured January 5, 2008, to October 3, 2016. The side marker lights on the affected vehicles may be mounted too high to be easily seen. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
The risk: Side marker lights in an incorrect location may increase the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Morbark will notify owners, and dealers will relocate the rear side marker lights, free of charge. The recall began on January 9, 2017. Owners may contact Morbark customer service at 1-517-866-2381.

The defect: Morbark, Inc. (Morbark) is recalling certain model year 2009-2016 Beever wood chipper trailers manufactured January 5, 2009, to August 3, 2016. The affected trailers are missing reflex reflectors. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
The risk: Without reflectors, the wood chipper trailer may be less visible to other traffic, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Morbark will notify owners and provide them with reflectors to install, free of charge. The recall on November 4, 2016. Owners may contact Morbark customer service at 1-517-866-2381.

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
