2016 Newmar Canyon Star Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2016 Newmar Canyon Star, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING A 2016 NEWMAR CANYON STAR MOTORHOME, WE EXPERIENCED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND HYDROBOOST LIGHTS COMING ON. THIS WOULD RANDOMLY OCCUR WHETHER WE DROVE IT 30 FEET OR 30 MILES. THE OWNER'S MANUAL SAID TO TAKE IT IMMEDIATELY TO A FORD SERVICE CENTER, WHICH WE DID. THIS HAS BEEN AN ON-GOING PROBLEM SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN OCTOBER, 2015. WE ONLY HAVE 1600 MILES ON SAID VEHICLE. FORD REPLACED THE ABS MODULE WHICH DID NOT HELP. FORD THEN REPLACED A RELAY AND FLOW VALVE ON THE HYDROBOOST. THIS DID NOT HELP. AT THIS POINT THE VEHICLE IS UNUSEABLE AND A SAFETY HAZARD SINCE IT AFFECTS THE BRAKES. I HAVE DETERMINED FROM THE INTERNET THAT OTHER INDIVIDUALS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS WITH NO REMEDIES. ALL OF THESE VEHICLES ARE USING THE 2016 F-53 CHASSIS. I WOULD LIKE YOUR HELP IN RESOLVING THIS ISSUE BY ASSIGNING A FORD ENGINEER TO TROUBLESHOOT WHY THIS IS HAPPENING.

Passenger side of engine valve train failure. Frozen roller bearing with heavy wear, heavy wear on cam and dropped one valve in cylinder. Major damage to cylinder wall, piston and head. Complete engine replacement needed. Only 18000 miles on this engine. Ordered new one from ford dealership. The engine has been removed by a certified ford mechanic and inspected for the damage. The motor home was not in motion when engine failure happened. There were no warning lights, messages or buzzers before during and after failure accrued. The motor was turned off as soon as noise was heard. There was a certified ford mechanic inspecting the motor home when failure accrued.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
