THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE BEGAN TO TURN WITHOUT THE IGNITION KEY IN PLACE. THE STARTER WAS RUINED BEFORE ATTEMPTS TO DISENGAGE POWER TO THE STARTER WERE SUCCESSFUL. THE MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE STARTER BELIEVES THE CAUSE WAS WATER INFILTRATION OF BUSSMAN BOX WHERE ENGINE STARTER FUSES AND RELAYS ARE LOCATED. A BUSSMAN BOX HAS BEEN THE SUBJECT OF OTHER SAFETY RECALLS ON NEWMAR BRAND DIESEL PUSHERS. WHEN CONTACTED, BOTH THE CHASSIS MANUFACTURER (SPARTAN) AND THE COACH MANUFACTURER (NEWMAR) DENY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM. NO REMEDY HAS BEEN OFFERED BY EITHER MANUFACTURER. *TR

MOTOR HOME IS NEW. WINDSHIELDS WIPERS WERE TURNED ON DURING A RAIN STORM. ON THE FIRST SWEEP BOTH WIPER ARMS EXTENDED TOO FAR TO THE LEFT. DRIVERS SIDE WIPER ARM WRAPPED AROUND THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CURVED WINDSHIELD WHILE THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER ARM ROTATED APPROX 180 DEGREES. WIPERS ARMS FROZE IN THAT POSITION. WIPER MOTOR WAS BURNT UP, FUSE WAS BLOWN, AND SPLINES IN THE WIPER ARMS WHERE MOUNTED TO WIPER ROTATING SYSTEM WERE GROUND SMOOTH. WIPER ARMS AND MOTOR WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. SECOND TIME WIPERS TURNED ON DURING A RAIN STORM THEY OPERATED APPROXIMATELY 24 CYCLES AND DID THE SAME THING. CHECKED THE NEWMAR OWNER SITE ON IRV2.COM AND FIND THAT MANY OTHER NEWMAR OWNERS REPORT THE SAME / SIMILAR EXPERIENCE WITH WIPERS. FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS ON SECONDARY ROAD. MINIMUM TRAFFIC, NO PLACE TO STOP SO PROCEEDED WITH DIMINISHED VISIBILITY. SECOND OCCURRENCE OCCURRED ON BUSY I-80 IN THE MIDDLE OF HEAVY SEMI TRUCK TRAFFIC. AGAIN NO PLACE TO SAFELY STOP SO PROCEEDED WITH GREATLY DIMINISHED VISIBILITY UNTIL COULD SAFELY STOP AND WAIT FOR RAIN AND WATER THROWN BY TRAFFIC TO CEASE. CURRENTLY WAITING FOR NEWMAR TO FIND SOMEONE WHO CAN ADDRESS PROBLEM. *TR

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
Compare model years
Complaint and recall counts across every year of this model
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
