What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2005 Nissan Armada, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
My breaking system has a malfunction that comes on and off. Sometimes the brakes automatically stop working and start grinding as if I have no brakes, but when I brought it to be looked at they couldn't find the problem. I notice that when you turn the car off and turn it back on the problems of sides for a little while will eventually come back later. For someone to detect it, they cannot shut the car off at the time that is presenting itself.
The brakes light comes on frequently and brakes stop working properly when going over a bump in the road decrease speed then engine fails. Has to be turned off then on to start engine.
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
For several years now since I received this car from a family member gas gauge has been not working I contacted Nissan they said my year or VIN number was it affected but that's not accurate because it is so what can I do
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Armada. The contact stated that the fuel gauge inaccurately displayed the fuel level in the tank while the fuel tank was empty; causing the vehicle to stall. The contact refueled the vehicle and was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 10V074000 (Fuel System, Other) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 192,000.
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim

The contact owned a 2005 Nissan Armada. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH, his steering wheel was locked without warning. Due to the failure, the contact veered off the road and hit two parked vehicles. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. The contact stated that a little girl was standing near one of the parked vehicles and was knocked into a tree and was airlifted to a child trauma center. The contact stated that from his knowledge, the girl was only treated for cuts and bruises. The contact stated that he was knocked out for a few minutes after impact but refused medical attention at the scene. He later went to the hospital and was treated for a concussion and whiplash. The contact stated that he believed that a police report was filed but was not certain. The vehicle was towed from the scene to an independent tow yard where it was deemed a total loss. The dealer nor the manufacturer have been notified of the failure. The vehicle had been destroyed. The failure mileage was approximately 215,000.

WHEN DRIVING AND WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED TO STOP THE BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE BRAKES SOUND LIKE THEY ARE SCRUBBING AND THE BRAKE PETAL GOES TO THE FLOOR THE VEHICLE SLOWS A LITTLE BUT IT IS STILL ROLLING. THE VEHICLE THEN HAS TO BE PUT IN PARK, THE ENGINE THEN HAS TO BE TURNED OFF. YOU THEN HAVE TO WAIT A FEW SECONDS AND RESTART VEHICLE. IF THIS IS NOT DONE THE LIGHT DOESNT GO OFF AND THE BRAKING IS THE SAME. ALSO THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR LOCK WORKS RANDOMLY. I HAVE THIS PROBLEM ALSO WITH MY INFINITI G35 WHICH IS ALSO MADE BY NISSAN, I HAVE TWO FRIENDS THAT OWN NISSAN VEHICLES THAT EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR DOOR LOCK ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. *TR
THE DOOR ACTUATOR (PASSENGER) ON MY 2005 NISSAN ARMADA HAS GONE OUT TWICE WITH IN 14 MONTHS, CAUSING THE DOOR NOT TO BE ABLE TO OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. *TR

THE CONTACT ROTATED THE FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE TIRES AT 16,000 MILES AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE INSIDE TREAD WAS WORN. AT 22,000 MILES, THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE FRONT AND REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE TIRES HAD PREMATURELY WORN TO THE WEAR BAR. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE TIRES SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED AT 20,000 MILES. THE DOT NUMBER ON ALL OF THE TIRES WAS A37B, HOWEVER, HE STATED THAT THE DOT NUMBERS WERE INVALID. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,583 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ARMADA. THE VEHICLE HAS CONTINENTAL CONTITRAC AW, SIZE P276/70R18 TIRES. ON JUNE 15, 2007, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC FOR A TIRE ROTATION. THE MECHANIC OBSERVED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES WERE WORN. THE MANUFACTURER AGREED THAT THE TIRES HAD PREMATURE WEAR AND TREAD SEPARATION AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE TIRES DIAGNOSED. CLAIM NUMBER 5071419263 WAS FILED WITH CONTINENTAL TIRES ON JULY 16, 2007. CONTINENTAL AGREED TO PAY 50% OF THE COST TO REPLACE THE TIRES, BUT THE CONTACT FEELS THIS IS INADEQUATE DUE TO RECALL NUMBER 02T012000 (TIRES:TREAD/BELT). HER VIN IS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. THE FAILURE LOCATION INCLUDES ALL FOUR TIRES ON THE VEHICLE. THE REPAIR LOCATION INCLUDED REPLACING ALL OF THE TIRES. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,600 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ARMADA. WHILE PARKED THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PLACE THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE BUT THE GEAR SHIFTER WOULD NOT MOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THERE WERE PIECES OF METAL IN THE TRANSMISSION LINE. THE TECHNICIAN ATTEMPTED TO UN-CLOG THE TRANSMISSION LINE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000. ....UPDATED 12/03/12 *BF THE CONSUME STATED WHEN SHE MADE A TURN, THE VEHICLE FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS GOING TO STOP. WHEN SHE STOPPED AND LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE, SHE SAW A REDDISH COLOR FLUID LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER WENT TO THE NEAREST REPAIR SHOP WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THREE WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP WHERE THEY REPLACED THE RADIATOR LINE WHICH WAS LEAKING. WHEN THEY ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, THEY NOTICED SEVERAL HOLES BETWEEN THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION WERE CLOGGED. UPDATED 01/10/12
DRIVING FINE THEN AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN, CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, LIKE IT IS IN A HIGHER GEAR. AFTER REACHING 10MPH IT DRIVES PERFECTLY FINE. IF AFTER STOPPING YOU CUT THE ENGINE AND RESTART, IT IS FINE. REVERSE WORKS FINE. CODE P1757 COMES UP ON TEST. A BAD VALVE BODY. I'VE SEEN THIS ALL OVER THE INTERNET MOSTLY ON NISSAN '05 MODELS, MAYBE SOME '06. VERY FRUSTRATING, NISSAN SAYS I NEED A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION. I'M THINKING A RECALL SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO HAPPEN ON OTHER YEAR MODELS AS MUCH. *TT

Exterior lighting
Reports naming headlights, tail lights, turn signals and other exterior lighting.
From owner reports, verbatim
AT ANY GIVEN TIME, THE BRAKE LIGHT WILL APPEAR ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. DURING THIS TIME EXTRA EFFORT IS REQUIRED TO APPLY THE BRAKES WHEN TRYING TO STOP. WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, THERE IS A HORRIBLE GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON CAN SOMETIMES "FIX" IT BUT ON THIS PARTICULAR DAY IT DID IT 5 TIMES IN A ROW. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN KNOWN TO HAPPEN TO DRIVERS OF 2005 NISSAN ARMADAS FOR A FEW YEARS AND NISSAN HAS YET TO PERFORM/ISSUE ANY CORRECTIVE ACTIONS. WHEN YOU TAKE THE VEHICLE TO HAVE THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED THEY TELL YOU IT'S THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND IT WILL COST $900+ TO FIX. IT AMAZED ME THAT IT DIDN'T TAKE LONG FOR THEM TO TELL ME THE SOLUTION WHEN I TOLD THEM THE PROBLEM...SO OBVIOUSLY THE DEALERSHIP HAS HEARD OF THE PROBLEM BEFORE....WHY HASN'T/ISN'T NISSAN DOING ANYTHING TO HELP ITS CUSTOMERS? *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
