1995 Nissan D21 Engine Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the engine system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Engine reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components. Every record below is an owner-reported complaint about the 1995 Nissan D21 submitted to NHTSA — not a confirmed defect, not a recall and not a manufacturer bulletin. 17 reports on file name it.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAKS AT THE ENGINE. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT WITH THE MANIFOLD STUDS. SOME MODELS AND MODEL YEARS HAVE BEEN COVERED BY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. ALTHOUGH MY ENGINE EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAKS, NISSAN REFUSES TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT. THEY EVEN REFUSE TO ADMIT THAT THIS NISSAN ENGINE HAS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS ISSUE. ASK ANYONE THAT WORKS IN A CAR REPAIR OR EXHAUST REPAIR SHOP. THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH ALL NISSAN 3.0 L ENGINES, INCLUDING MINE. IT IS A VERY EXPENSIVE, TIME CONSUMING REPAIR AND OFTEN NEEDS TO BE DONE MORE THAN ONCE DURING OWNERSHIP.*AK

EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BREAK, NISSAN SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB 94041 4/94) STATES IMPROVED MATERIALS ARE NEEDED. COST TO REPAIR IS NEARLY $1,000 BECAUSE THE MANIFOLDS WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED DUE TO WARPAGE. NISSAN WILL NOT COVER DEFECT, I'M NOT SURE I CAN AFFORD IT AND THE CABIN FILLS WITH EXHAUST GASSES. NISSAN CLAIMS THEY HAVE NOT SEEN THIS AS A PROBLEM AND YET THEY HAVE A SERVICE BULLETIN STTING THE STUDS NEED TO BE MADE FROM IMPROVED MATERIALS. *AK
