What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2012 Nissan Juke, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2012 Nissan Juke. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and decelerated to approximately 5 MPH. The accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond as needed. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but recurred at various speeds. The vehicle was towed to two different independent mechanics who were unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

From owner reports, verbatim

The contact stated that while attempting the start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to respond as intended twice, and then the vehicle turned off independently after the third attempt. An independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with fuel pressure sensor failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V683000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 106,000.
The car smelling of burning and is not safe to drive.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
I purchased this Nissan 2012 from Hyundai Santa Maria. It has had a problem starting consistently. There are recorded records all over the net. Simply google Nissan Juke Push Button won't start. I have already spent some money trying to figure out the issue. People have been stranded in my car Calling triple A. It drains the batteries which are $250 each. Nissan indicates that the remote keyless entry that stalls in the accesory mode. It has been 10 yrs an people are having to dump their cars. Mine I pay $224 a month an 11k loan for it to sit in my driveway. It is a danger as if the car cannot be started in a hazardous situation then someone will die. The contact stated that Nissan has not offered any assistance so far. The contact was informed by Nissan that their vehicle does not apply to the recall and recommended that they pay for diagnostic testing.
THIS JUKE HAS BEEN GREAT UNTIL NOW A WEEK AGO. IT HAS INTERMITTENTLY FAILED TO START. ALL THINGS CHECK OUT GOOD THAT USUALLY CAUSE THIS. THE BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, STARTER, ETC. WE HAVE HAD IT LEAVE US STRANDED AND THE MECHANIC CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN SENT OUT ABOUT 2011-2013 JUKES SAYING NISSAN KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEMS. HOWEVER THE DEALERSHIP KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT IT AND LESS THAN HELPFUL. THEY WANT TO CHARGE 160$ TO SEE IF THEY CAN DIAGNOSE IT , BUT IT MUST FAIL IN ORDER FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE. THE PROBLEM WITH THAT IS THAT IT DOESN'T ALWAYS FAIL. THERE ARE MANY DAYS IT STARTS WITHOUT ISSUE. I UNFORTUNATELY DON'T HAVE AN EXTRA VEHICLE TO HELP GET MY FAMILY AROUND WHILE THEY KEEP IT FOR SEVERAL DAYS. WE BOUGHT THIS CAR USED, AND HAVE HAD NO ISSUES UNTIL NOW. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. SEEMS NISSAN SHOULD OWN THE FAULT AND THAT DEALERSHIPS SHOULD KNOW HOW TO HELP CUSTOMERS IT DOESN'T ALWAYS FAIL TO START AFTER IT HAS BEEN SITTING. IT COULD HAVE BEEN DRIVEN AND THEN TURNED OFF TO GET GAS, AND THEN WON'T START. OH AND IT ALWAYS STARTS AFTER THE BATTERY HAS BEEN JUMPED OFF. WHAT IS THAT ABOUT SINCE THE BATTERY TEST GOOD. SEEMS ELECTRICAL, OR SOFTWARE UPDATE SOMETHING. PLEASE HELP.IT SEEMS THAT OTHER CUSTOMERS HAVE HAD THE ECM REPROGRAMMED AND THAT HAS SEEM TO HELP RESOLVE THE ISSUE. SOUTHWEST NISSAN IS AWFUL.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
Timing chain needs replacement however the timing chain was already replaced in 2014 under Nissan recall NTB14-030c campaign P4213. This car has 54,000 miles on it and has been serviced at Nissan dealerships according to the Nissan service schedule. There is no reason for this part to need replacing again after so few miles unless the Nissan part was bad, there is an underlying manufacturing issue with the vehicle or the recall replacement was done incorrectly. Nissan Consumer Affairs refuses to assist because the car is out of warranty.
WHILE ON THE 405 FREEWAY I SUDDENLY LOST CAR SPEED. I WAS FLOORING THE GAS BUT THE CAR BARELY MOVED. [] SHAKEN UP AND SCARED. [] SUGGESTED I PUT ON THE CAR HAZARD LIGHTS AND PULL OFF TO THE SHOULDER. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THE NISSAN JUKE TRANSMISSION MUST HAVE BEEN OVERHEATING SO IT SHUT DOWN. [] WAITED ABOUT 30 MINUTES AND WAS ABLE TO START MY NISSAN JUKE AND DROVE TO []'S PLACE. I ALSO CALLED AAA TO MAKE SURE IT WASN'T A PROBLEM. WENT TO TRANSMISSION SERVICE, ERROR CODES WERE READ P0744(TCC FAULT) AND P0826(MANUAL MOD E SWITCH) PRESENT, INTERNAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. HAD TRANSMISSION REPLACED. CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY REFUSE TO REIMBURSE THE FEE. From owner reports, verbatim
SRS AIRBAG LIGHT FLASHES CONTINUOUSLY. STARTED ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO (MARCH 2024) TOOK CAR TO REPAIR SHOP, STATED OCS CONTROL UNIT AND PASSENGER OCCUPANT SENSORS NEED TO BE REPLACED. TOOK TO A NISSAN DEALER FOR 2ND OPINION. STATED TODAY THEY WILL REPLACE OCS CONTROL UNIT & PASSENGER OCCUPANT SENSORS. IS THIS SOMETHING THAT COULD BE COVERED BY A RECALL EVENT?
The contact owns a 2012 Nissan Juke. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked in a parking lot overnight, the next day she noticed the air bag had deployed. The vehicle was towed to an Independent mechanic but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

Reports naming seats, latches, locks, linkages and interior fittings.
From owner reports, verbatim
THE BACK SEAT, WHICH CAN FOLD DOWN, DOES NOT LATCH TO THE ATTACHMENT, AS DESIGNED. THIS SEAT CAN LUNGE FORWARD, WHICH COULD BE HAZARDOUS TO A PASSENGER OR EVEN THE DRIVER. THIS IS PROBLEMATIC, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND THE BRAKES NEED TO BE ENGAGED QUICKLY'THE UNLATCHED SEAT SLAMS FORWARD. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WHEN I'VE HAD TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES QUICKLY TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT, IT PROPELS FORWARD THE UNLATCHED BACK SEAT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 NISSAN JUKE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN 12V328000 (SEATS) THIRTEEN MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE DEALER KNEW ABOUT THE RECALL AND DID NOT INFORM THE CONTACT ABOUT THE RECALL PRIOR TO HIM PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT AGAINST THE DEALER. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.

Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE PEDAL BUILDS UP PRESSURE, STICKS, AND IS NOT ABLE TO BE PRESSED DOWN TO START THE VEHICLE. ALL OF THE LIGHTS WILL TURN ON BUT THE ENGINE WILL NOT START. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL NOT SIGNAL AT THAT TIME AS WELL. IN GETTING A JUMP START, THE VEHICLE IS ABLE TO START. AFTER THIS OCCURS, WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STILL RUNNING, WHENEVER THE CAR IS AT A STOP AND THE BRAKE IS PRESSED, IT SHAKES INTERMITTENTLY. THE BATTERY AS WELL AS THE BRAKE SWITCH HAVE BEEN TESTED WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND BOTH ARE IN WORKING ORDER. THE INABILITY TO START THE VEHICLE HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN PUBLIC PLACES AND AT THE HOME WHERE THE VEHICLE IS KEPT. THE SHAKING OF THE CAR UPON BRAKING HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE CAR HAS TROUBLE STARTING.
SAFETY ISSUE. CAR FAILED TO BRAKE CAUSING COLLISION. CAR WAS STOPPED AT YIELD, PROCEEDED TO MOVE FORWARD IN LINE, AND WHEN TRIED TO STOP BRAKE PEDAL DID NOT RESPOND. PEDAL BOTTOMED OUT WITHOUT RESISTANCE, COMPLETELY SOFT. *TR

Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.

Sept 2022 i bought my 2012 Nissan Juke from Jeff Wyler’s Nissan King AutoMall. April 23 the left, lower ball joint/axle (drivers side) broke. Needed fixed. Almost $2,000. I specifically asked them to check right sided ball joint/axle. Oh it’s fine. We checked it out and it’s all good. Less than 3 months later-the right sided axle and ball joint broke. It only took over 6 weeks and 3 different places (discount tires, tire discounters and Jeff Wyler’s dealership) to figure out what was wrong with my vehicle at this time. This time it cost me more (but since jeff wylers mechanics fix things and then jack up the price by $800) it actually cost me $1550 to fix it this time.I could have died. On both occasions and now it feels like the backend of my juke is shaking apart. I’m scared to death to drive my vehicle and I’ve told Jeff Wyler I think they sold me an unsafe vehicle and I am now terrified to drive it. But it’s the only car we have in our family and I can’t afford to buy another one. You have no idea as to how terrified I am to drive my car now; especially with that rear end shaking. omg! I’ve never owned a Nissan before and this is my last I have also asked Jeff Wyler’s dealership-wouldn’t this have been caught on their inspection of selling a used car? Wouldn’t the mechanic in April seen signs/symptoms of stress on the right sided ball joint when they looked at it when they fixed the left side? How do things like this get missed? & put MY LIFE IN DANGER as well as every other person on the roads while I drove with broken axles and ball joints? How can they sell vehicles that are not safe? omg! You cannot comprehend the terrified feeling along with anxiety/nausea and just pure terror of driving a vehicle that shakes still and where I’ve had to fix 2 separate massive breakages in the driveway mechanics or frame (idk. The 2nd time it happened; I thought its a bad tire). I am now more religious and spiritual because of this. I now pray several times daily

THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL HAD AN IMPROPER CASTING FROM THE FACTORY. THE RIM HAD A FAILURE AT FREEWAY SPEED WITH NO DAMAGE, SIGNS OF IMPACT, OR PUNCTURE TO TIRE. THE TIRE REMAINED ON ITS BEAD WHILE VEHICLE CAME TO A FULL AND COMPLETE STOP. THE RIM FAILED BY HAVING A TWO INCH HOLE BLOWOUT FROM THE INSIDE OF THE RIM CAUSING A SUDDEN LOSS OF PRESSURE TO THE WHEEL. THERE WAS NO CONTACT WITH ANY ROAD DEBRIS OR HAZARDS. THE FLAW WAS IDENTIFIED BY AN EXCESS AMOUNT OF WHEEL WEIGHT, USED IN THE TIRE BALANCING PROCESS, WITHIN 2 INCHES OF FAILURE SIGNIFYING A LACK OF MATERIAL IN THAT AREA OF THE RIM.
