2015 Nissan Leaf Airbags Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the airbag system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Airbags reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

MY DRIVER SIDE INFLATOR FAILED. THE DEALER INITIALLY ADVISED ME TO "KEEP DRIVING THE CAR UNTIL THE PART COMES IN AFTER LABOR DAY." HTTPS://WWW.ADVANTAGENISSAN.COM/ I CITED MY CONCERNS WITH TAKATA AND THE DEALER ASSURED ME THAT THIS CAR DID NOT HAVE TAKATA AIR BAGS. REGARDLESS, A FAILED AIR BAG ACTIVATOR AND THE DEALER ADVISING ME TO KEEP DRIVING THE CAR UNTIL IT COULD BE REPLACED REQUIRES NHTSA INVESTIGATION.

THE PASSENGER AIR BAG TURNS ON AT RANDOM TIMES WHEN A PASSENGER (OVER 140 POUNDS) IS IN THE SEAT. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY, BUT CONSISTENTLY. WE'VE TRIED DIFFERENT CONFIGURATIONS; GETTING IN THE SEAT AFTER THE CAR HAS STARTED, HOPING UP AND DOWN (TRYING TO TRIGGER THE WEIGHT SENSOR), CHANGING OCCUPANTS, UN-BUCKLING AND RE-BUCKLING THE SEAT BELT. NOTHING SEEMS TO MAKE THE ISSUE GO AWAY. CAR IS AT THE DEALERSHIP, SO FAR THEY HAVE NO LEADS.

THE LEAF OFTEN SHOWS THAT MY PASSENGER AIR BAG IS DISABLED, EVEN THOUGH MY SON WHO IS OVER 100 POUNDS IS SITTING IN THE SEAT WITH THE SEAT BELT ON. THIS HAPPENS ABOUT 50% OF THE TIME AT ALL SPEEDS WHEN HE IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I THINK THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE SENSORS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I WOULD HATE TO GET IN A CRASH AND NOT HAVE THE AIRBAGS DEPLOY! *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
