2024 Nissan Leaf Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

What this page shows

Our database holds 5 NHTSA owner-reported complaints for the 2024 Nissan Leaf. Each one is a report filed by an owner or driver and published by NHTSA without most of them being verified. On [XXX] at about [XXX] pm at 12,488 miles and 67% charge, I was pulling into traffic from [XXX] onto [XXX]. As I accelerated into the gap in traffic, the car momentarily lost traction. Initially, the traction control system intervened and restored traction. Moments later, the car lost traction a second time. However, the second time the car lost traction, the entire car seemed to shut down. The display indicated " Service EV System Apply Parking Brake". I immediately turned on the hazard lights and pulled to the side of the roadway. I tried turning the car off and back on again but was unable to get the car to drive. At [XXX] pm, I called the dealership where I bought the car and was told by the service department that they were unfamiliar with this issue. As I was considering options for recovery (insurance, dealership, etc.) I decided to unhook the 12V battery in an attempt to reset the car. By [XXX] pm, the display was now reading "Service EV System No Power". I used a 10mm wrench to unhook the positive terminal of the 12V battery. I waited about 30 seconds and then reconnected the positive terminal of the 12V battery. After reconnecting, the car began to work ok and I went back to driving normally. At [XXX] pm, I called the dealership back and informed them of what I had found and that unhooking the 12V battery had reset the car and it was now driving ok. When putting the car in reverse, the Backup Camera goes blank. This causes backing up out of a parking space to be hazardous because driver is unable to see around the end of the cars on either side. No inspection has taken place yet. No other warnings or messages.

Never had an issue with defrost or heat on my 2024 Leaf until I had the recall P4A17 applied. At the last cold snap, the heater worked fine for about 15m and than stopped working, just blowing cold air. I switched it off and waited a bit, switched it back on and it worked again. Called my local Nissan dealer and they said that they are aware of the issue and Nissan working on a fix. Happened again today 11 Feb. another cold snap, 12F when I left the house. Heater worked fine. Again after about 15m only cold air.

The front all-around parking view camera is now dark purple ( no other colors) and its lens is not aligned. I am taking it into Nissan for warranty repair on 8/27/2024. At least one other user online has a similar issue with their 2023 Leaf, mine is a 2024. Since this camera is used for parking situational awareness , you might consider it a safety issue. If it is systemic issue.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
