1984 Nissan Maxima Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1984 Nissan Maxima, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

ODOR OF GASOLINE DEVELOPED, LEAKY FUEL INJECTORS, CAUSED BY FAULTY O-RING SEALS. 84 MODELS WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.

NHTSA ID 9005674 · filed Feb 6, 2002

TWO OF THE SIX FUEL INJECTORS APPEAR WET AND SMELL OF GASOLINE. I BELIEVE THEY ARE LEAKING A SMALL AMOUNT OF GAS. THE CAR ACCELERATES POORLY. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 95I006000 COVERED 686,649 NISSAN MAXIMAS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JUL 1984 THROUGH JUL 1989. I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND WAS TOLD THIS SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN DID NOT COVER MY 1984 NISSAN MAXIMA. THEY COULD NOT ANSWER ME WHY MY FUEL INJECTORS WERE CONSIDERED SAFE BUT THE FUEL INJECTORS OF MAXIMAS BUILT IN THE FIVE YEARS AFTER MY CAR WAS BUILT WERE POSSIBLY UNSAFE. MY FUEL INJECTORS ARE LEAKING. I AM REQUESTING THAT A NISSAN DEALER REPLACE MY MAXIMA'S FUEL INJECTORS AND RELATED HOSES. MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT FROM THE 686,649 NISSAN MAXIMAS THAT WERE AFFECTED BY THIS SAFETY CAMPAIGN. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.*AK
